Job Description

ESL/EL - English Second Language Teacher: 212 days, 7.5 hours per day, 5 days a week

Valley Collaborative is a Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education approved public school entity. We provide high quality academic, therapeutic and vocational services to individuals referred by local school districts and social service agencies. We also provide ongoing professional development and training experiences for educators and educational agencies. Recognizing that the educational environment rapidly changes, Valley Collaborative creates, adapts, and provides flexible programming to address evolving needs. We provide an environment within which students and others can maximize educational and/or occupational skills. By sharing its resources with multiple school districts and social service agencies, its programs maintain superior quality and reasonable costs to those it serves, by meeting or exceeding state standards, and achieving economies of scale.


ESL - English Second Language

Requirements:
• Experience working with students with special learning, emotional and/or behavioral needs such as autism, social/emotional, or other learning disabilities
• Experience and training in ABA based programming for individuals with autism diagnoses
• Demonstrated knowledge of education methods, techniques, curriculum, materials, and activities
• Ability to write and implement Individual Education Programs (IEP)
• Work with SLP, OT, PT, Social Worker, and BCBA to develop and implement IEPs
• Implement behavior support plans as developed in conjunction with the BCBA, as well as monitor teacher aides conducting such plans
• Have experience and training in de-escalation/physical intervention strategies
• Communicate effectively with all team members in order to produce effective results for the students
• Maintain and organized, safe, and productive classroom in order for students to make adequate progress
• Have strong written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to approach individuals in a creative and thoughtful manner
• Flexibility to meet identified student needs
• Have a strong commitment to the goals, mission, and philosophy of the organization
• Model respect, honesty, consideration, responsibility, and positive attitude with both peers and students
• Participate in staff meetings and in-service training as requested
• Provide transportation for students in Collaborative vehicles, when necessary
• All other duties as assigned Qualifications:
• At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
• Citizenship, residency, or work VISA in United States required
• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
• DESE certification ESL

Physical Demands:

• Constant standing or walking
• Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Bends, reaches, lifts, carries, twists, pushes, pulls, and handles equipment when performing duties
• Able to reach and operate equipment and systems safely and effectively

Other Competencies (skills, abilities, behavior):
Ability to understand and follow both written and oral instructions. Adaptability to perform routine, repetitive tasks within a specific period of time. Prioritizes work assignments to be completed within time requirements.

Must demonstrate a positive and caring attitude toward students, clients, and staff. Must remain flexible and adaptable in order to meet department needs.
