REPORTS TO: School Principals and Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel


JOB GOAL: To help reduce or eliminate speech and hearing impediments that interferes
with the individual student’s ability to derive full benefit from the district’s educational program.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Serves as resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication, language development, and speech improvement.

2) Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.

3) Assists the Child Evaluation Team in assessing speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments.

4) Assists the Child Evaluation Team in the development of an appropriate speech and language education plan for students requiring speech and language therapy.

5) Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual student’s need and correct existing speech or language handicaps.

6) Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the students’ daily activities.

7) Provides inservice education and serves as a consultant to teacher and school staff members concerning speech, language, and hearing impairments.

8) Reports to parents and school personnel regarding student progress in therapy.

9) Assumes responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies.

10) Administers appropriate diagnostic instruments to determine progress made toward goals and the effectiveness of therapy methods.

11) Prepares annual speech and language educational plan reviews which outline progress made toward goals and establishes new goals for future therapy sessions.

      An Act Relative to Background Checks


      On January 10, 2013, Governor Deval Patrick signed into law H.4307, an act relative to background checks. The new law requires all newly hired employees, beginning in the 2013-2014 school year, to submit to state and national fingerprint-based criminal background checks.

      As a new employee of the Holbrook Public Schools, you will be subject to a Massachusetts criminal background check (CORI). In addition, you will be required to submit to a National Criminal Background Check by fingerprint.

      The fee charged is $55.00 for licensed educators and $35 for all other school personnel.
