The Putnam Avenue Community:
The Putnam Avenue Upper School is an innovative public middle school rounding out its seventh year in the Cambridge Public Schools. We are looking for a dynamic, committed educator with strong content and pedagogical knowledge, solid classroom management skills, a deep commitment to social justice and experience working in an urban school setting.
The Role:
The literacy coach will work primarily with teachers in grades 6-8, supporting their ongoing professional growth and learning both as individuals and in their teams. The literacy coach will work in a collaborative manner with teachers, encouraging and inspiring growth and reflection on their own practice. The literacy coach will draw on a depth of knowledge about reading and writing development as well as significant experiences teaching upper grades literacy in their work with teachers. The literacy coach will also work directly with the principal to support data monitoring and analysis, school improvement, and intervention work. The literacy coach will support implementation of the ELA curriculum and the generating and sustaining of a powerful vision for lifelong literacy learning in school and beyond.
