Job Description

TITLE: METCO Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor Temporary Position 

 

JOB GOAL:

To identify those students, within the METCO Program, who demonstrate
signs of emotional, behavioral, or social problems and establish a comprehensive
prevention and intervention program that will prevent these problems from progressing
into major dysfunction.

 


QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or certification as a School Adjustment Counselor required;

Master’s Degree in Social Work or related mental health disciplines preferred.

 

MAJOR DUTIES:

Included, but not limited to:

  • Serving students within the METCO Program (K-12), who are seen on as needed on-going basis. Services are provided around academic, social, and personal problems, via conferences and individual, group and family counseling
  • Assisting in the planning and execution of students' leadership conference. March)
  • Will meet with students during the year around issues pertaining to their social and academic development, through group work.
  • Acting as a liaison between home and school, and providing input on home visits which are a required part of core evaluations.
  • Attending parent-teacher conferences, when appropriate.
  • Attending initial IEP meetings and 3-year evaluations for students in the METCO Program.
  • Attending Team Meetings: The Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor shall be part of the school case study team when appropriate. S/He will attend regular meetings in order to make recommendations for diagnostic tests, intervention and evaluation, and participate in IMP and other meetings as needed.
  • Participating in the selection and orientation processes for new children and families.
  • Attending monthly METCO family meetings
  • Providing assistance and counseling to families during times of crisis.
  • Attending staff meetings.
  • Making referrals to community agencies by identifying appropriate agencies and providing support until the transfer of case has occurred.
  • Providing follow through service to families who have left the system and assisting them with identifying an appropriate school placement for students.
  • Working with schools and families to strengthen the Partner Families Program.
  • Providing consultation to school staff around issues and concerns pertinent to students of color and their families.

 

This is a temporary position until April of 2019.
