Job Description

The Public Schools of Brookline Early Education Program (BEEP) is seeking a full time, preschool special education teacher with moderate and/or severe DESE certification. There is also a possibility of summer employment.   The morning portion of this position includes co-teaching an inclusive preschool class (student age=3 years) for students with complex medical and developmental needs, and their typically developing classmates. The teacher will also be responsible for teaching a specialized social skills group for six students (ages 4 to 5 years old), four afternoons per week.

The candidate for this position should have experience working with students who present with medical, developmental, and/or social-communication disabilities. The candidate will need to work cooperatively with a general education teacher to develop/modify curriculum for students who are participating in the inclusive preschool classroom. Specifically, we seek a candidate who has experience implementing a total communication approach and designing an individualized activity based curriculum. The candidate should be will be required to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members including a nurse, speech and language pathologist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, social worker and board certified behavioral analyst (BCBA); and to successfully supervise paraprofessionals.

Teaching responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Design and provide direct specialized instruction for students
  • Support development of students’ social and play skills
  • Supervise and monitor ADLs including toileting, feeding/g-tube feeding
  • Develop/implement educational programs and analyze progress (collecting, analyzing data)
  • Conduct educational assessments
  • Write IEPs and progress reports; attend IEP meetings
  • Frequently communicate with parents.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Moderate and/or Severe Special Education DESE Teaching License
  • SEI Endorsement

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant work experience (minimum 3 years preschool teaching experience)
  • Master’s degree preferred
