Job Description

Art of Problem Solving (AoPS, AoPS.com) develops educational opportunities for many of the most eager math students in the world. We have trained tens of thousands of the country's top math students over the last 15 years through our textbook series and our online school. In 2016 we launched AoPS Academy (AoPSAcademy.org), a family of after-school learning centers for strong math and language arts students in grades 2-12. We seek enterprising educators to lead our AoPS Academy campuses and to inspire the next generation of intellectual leaders.

We will open several new AoPS Academy campuses around the United States in summer 2019, including one in Fremont, CA. Each campus will hire a director, who will also teach math classes, as well as two assistant directors, one in math and one in language arts. Applicants with less experience may be considered for the assistant director role.

This might be the right job for you if you understand what actors mean when they say, "I love acting, but what I really want to do is direct!" That's because you love teaching, but what you really want to do is run your own learning center. You're ready to do a bit of everything - teach math classes, hire and train teachers, work with parents to ensure their children's success, and whatever else comes your way.

Ideal candidate qualities

You're a people person and enjoy interacting with both adults and children. You're also a mathy person with some teaching experience. Maybe you're a math teacher in middle school or high school. Or a math professor who has decided that the teaching aspect of academia is far more attractive than research. You have a degree in a STEM-related field, some experience dealing with parents, and enough experience running something that you understand what being in charge means. You also understand that this is a position where working hours include evenings and weekends.

To apply, send a resume and cover letter to jobs@aopsacademy.org. Tell us about any teaching and management experience you have. Also please include a writing sample, such as an essay, article, or another piece of writing geared towards a non-technical audience.
