Interim Dean of Students
March 15th, 2019-June 12th, 2019

Job Summary:
The Dean of Students is an integral member of the Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School Administrative Team and contributes to the development and continuity of an effective and harmonious team. The Dean of Students interacts with students and parents relative to attendance and behavior within the building and on the school grounds.

Essential Functions:
1. Assists the Principal in the overall administration of the school.
2. Keep accurate records of student attendance and discipline in compliance with the District policies.
3. Be highly visible around the building and grounds before and after school, during lunch periods, and while students are changing classes.
4. Assists the Principal in overseeing improvement initiatives.
5. Supervise students during the lunch periods.
6. Oversee the students assigned to detention daily, in-house suspension, Saturday school, attendance credit recovery, and other attendance/discipline related student assignments.
7. Serves as the Principal, as directed, in the absence of the Principal.
8. Keep the Principal and other members of the administrative team well informed as to the operational climate of the school community as well as other developments which might affect the school.
9. Promote student understanding of their rights and responsibilities as school and community citizens.
10. Communicate with parents regarding all discipline and attendance related issues.
11. Approve/disapprove of student absenteeism including full-day absences, tardies, dismissals, and discharge disciplinary measures to those students who violate school regulations.
12. Assist in the interpretation of school and district programs, policies, and procedures to students, parents, staff, and community.
13. Supervise the collection and maintenance of attendance reports from the classrooms.
14. Counsel students in matters of attendance and tardiness.
15. Initiate petitions to Juvenile Court and prepare cases for formal hearing if directed to do so by the Principal.
16. Serve as liaison between the school and stakeholders as directed by the Principal.
17. Inform appropriate school staff to the attendance patterns of chronic offenders.
18. Prepare an annual report on attendance and related matters as required by law or CMR.
19. Maintain a professional awareness of regulations regarding child welfare and attendance by having a working knowledge of Massachusetts General Law, District policy, and administrative regulations.
20. Contribute to the preparation and update of bus schedules as needed.
21. Take an active role in solving discipline problems occurring on school buses.
22. Act as liaison with parents for transportation complaints and special requests.
23. Develop recommendations for future transportation needs.
24. Be available to attend extra-curricular activities on an as-needed basis to be determined by the Principal.
25. Collaborate with non-athletic advisors in the coordination, implementation, and supervision of extra-curricular activities.
26. Assist the Principal in the coordination of special programs, including graduation, senior class day, etc.
27. Assist in developing and administrating practices dealing with campus control and security.
28. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal or Superintendent-Director.
29. The Dean of Students is responsible for preparing daily staff coverage with substitute teachers.

    Job Requirements

    • Qualifications for the Position
      Education / Formal Training:
      Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or equivalent preferred.

      Certification / License:
      Massachusetts Principal/Assistant Principal 9-12 license preferred.

      Knowledge and Skills:
      Minimum of five years full-time teaching experience preferred.
      Five years administrative experience preferred.
