Job Description

Teach and case-manage students requiring specialized supports within a small class setting.

A strong background in design and implementation of curriculum for students with diverse learning needs, as well as experience with reading, math or organizational skill development is essential to this position.

1. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of assigned students.
2. Collaborate with general education teachers to establish clear learning objectives for students who are integrated into general education classrooms.
3. Provide direct specialized instruction to assigned students.
4. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct for the classroom, develop reasonable rules for classroom behavior and procedures, and maintain order in the classroom through implementation of positive behavioral supports, as well as implementation of individual student behavior intervention plans.
5. Assess student progress on a regular basis and provide data referenced progress reports and grading as required.
6. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for paraprofessional staff assigned to the classroom or to specific students under the teacher’s scope of direct or indirect supervision.
7. Engage as liaison for a caseload of students, to ensure full implementation of student IEPs, monitor student progress, support student programming, and alert the Evaluation Team Leader of any need to convene a Team meeting.
8. Perform other duties and responsibilities consistent with this role/position as assigned by the Director of Pupil Services, Special Education Coordinator or Principal.
