Job Description

Reports To: Superintendent of Schools

Qualifications:
-Hold or be eligible for licensure in MA Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent
-Strong understanding and experience in the design and implementation of best instructional strategies and assessment, curriculum development, professional development, program evaluation and improvement, supervision and evaluation
-Ability to lead and collaborate with a variety of professionals focused on a common goal of curriculum alignment, consistency in instructional methodologies and student achievement
-Strong communication skills in the form of public presentations, teacher collaboration, parent informational sessions and participation on the administrative leadership team
-At least five years of classroom teaching experience
-At least five years of administrative experience

Scope of Responsibilities:
Curriculum and Instruction
-Coordinate and lead the implementation of curriculum that is consistent with national, state, and local standards and aligned at each grade and level
-Direct the development, evaluation and revision of curriculum and instruction
-Assume responsibility for the implementation of newly approved instructional programs
-Lead and facilitate an ongoing professional development program for teachers to support high-quality curriculum, instruction, and assessment
-Solicit feedback from department heads and teachers to plan and implement Summer Institute workshops that are focused on the priorities outlined in school improvement plans and district strategy
-Provide leadership in developing plans for instructional research and pilot studies for curriculum, instruction and new courses of study

Leadership
-Support administrators, curriculum specialists, and department chairs in their development of rigorous formative, summative and progress monitoring practices to promote teacher development across the district
-Primary evaluator for teachers requiring improvement plans
-Create and implement a coaching program to specifically mentor, train and guide teacher coaches for our teachers on improvement plans
-Represent Swampscott at local and state roundtables and professional networks to broaden opportunities for our district

Compliance
-Lead the district in remaining current with existing and anticipated DESE mandates
-Work with principals to monitor teacher licensure
-Approve courses, credits and college programming relevant to professional responsibilities and compensation

-Set goals for self-improvement and implement an individual improvement plan, developed with the Superintendent
-Maintain a high level of competence in the field of education, remaining current with issues related to teaching and learning responsibilities
-Maintain a high level of personal integrity and a strong work ethic
