Job Description

Sippican School serves the Town of Marion, a seacoast town located 30 minutes from Cape Cod. This high performing district has a dedicated staff supported by the community and parents who value education.

The new principal of Sippican School will be an active member of the leadership team to inspire, create and support a safe 21st century learning environment that will prepare all students for an ever changing society. The leader must have outstanding collaborative skills, knowledge and experience in the areas of curriculum and instruction development that will enhance the teaching and learning of all stakeholders.

• Massachusetts Certification as Principal, grades prek-6.
• Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 5 years teaching and preferred administrative experience.

The Principal of the Sippican School shall be directly responsible to the Superintendent of Schools for all matters relating to the administration of grades PreK-6, the management of all non-teaching personnel and the management of the physical property including the grounds, equipment and building; and shall perform the following duties:
1. Demonstrate administrative leadership and management responsibility for all aspects of school operation, including the following specific functions:
a. Conduct all staff meetings and provide opportunities for the exchange of ideas and concerns of the staff.
b. Conduct meetings with parents for the exchange of ideas and to maintain a high level of open communication with parents and the community.
c. Prepare, edit and make ready for publication a newsletter in which new staff members and educational programs are introduced and educational programs are reviewed.
d. Hire, evaluate and supervise all professional personnel.
2. As required submit a series of goals to the Superintendent of Schools and to the School Committee. Said goals shall represent the educational aspirations to be achieved in the school year.
3. Translate the school’s philosophy into workable programs for the staff and the community.
4. Assume responsibility for budget planning through coordination with various members of the staff, the Director of Student Services and the Superintendent of Schools. Paramount in all such planning, the ultimate aim of economy and quality education shall prevail.
5. Recommend position duties for all new staff members; said specifications shall be reviewed by the Superintendent of Schools prior to posting and issuance.
6. Firmly and fairly effect adjustments in pupil behavior, maintain a high order of student discipline, establish codes of behavior which shall be made known to the staff, the student body, the community; and once adopted by the Committee, filed in the State Board of Education.
7. Make provisions for a broad range of significant and worthwhile student activities such as programs of a cultural nature in music, the fine arts, and dance.
8. Serve on all committees having to do with special needs education programs.
9. Serve at the discretion of the Superintendent of Schools when assigned by him/her to carry out any function.
10. Serve as Co-Chair of the School Council.
