Job Description

South Carolina

Beyond BookSmart is an Executive Function coaching company whose mission is to help people successfully meet today's challenges in school, work, and beyond, using tools that will benefit them long after they have stopped working with us. We use the work our clients currently face to teach them how to manage their time and attention, plan and prioritize, and become more organized, all so they gain confidence and become willing to take on even greater challenges. Coaching is not focused on content or tutoring (other than reading and writing, which always seem to come up) rather, the work we do focuses on Executive Function skills development - organization, time management, planning, and good "work habits." School skills emphasized are typically homework management, test prep, reading efficiently, essay writing and project management. Our coaching is done one-to-one, in clients' homes  and occasionally, sessions are also conducted online in addition to in-person. We provide in-person coaching in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Southern New Hampshire, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York City, Pennsylvania, Illinois, South Florida, and South Carolina.

  • In-person coaching availability for at least 5 hours per week.
  • Master’s degree or higher in education or related field required

  • 3 years of experience is preferred

  • We are especially looking for coaches who are comfortable with grades 3-12 and college students, as well as adults.

  • We value candidates who have experience working one to one with students, preferably as a special education teacher, speech and language pathologist, school psychologist, as a general education teacher , or in higher education, with experience with students with ADHD and other learning challenges.

  • Coaches must be comfortable with technology including email, use of an online database to track student progress, Gmail and Google suites, various study websites, apps, and web conference apps like Google Hangout or Skype.  Must have a computer that is compatible with Skype.

  • Candidates must be able to travel to at least one of the follow towns: Mount Pleasant, Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, Daniel Island, North Charleston, Downtown Charleston, West Ashley, James Island and Summerville.

  • Candidates may apply who cannot travel to the towns listed above, however, they will be placed on hold and contacted if and when we start hiring in other areas.

Hiring process

For consideration, please fill out our application for employment.  If you meet our criteria you will be contacted for a short screening interview, which is typically conducted over web conference (Zoom or Skype).  If you are selected after screening, we will then do an in person interview. We conduct background and reference checks as part of our hiring process and you will need to pass our training assessments in order to be officially hired.

Starting pay is $45-$65 per hour for in person coaching (20% less for online coaching) based on experience and credentials. Coaches may have the opportunity to advance to higher rates of pay depending on their performance and tenure with the company.

Training and Supervision

Before starting, coaches must attend company provided paid training, which includes webinars, an online technology training, and half day in-person training. Coaches are provided with ongoing professional development and supervision and must be available for 30 minutes a week during the first month or so of coaching to get the required support.  Our coaches see this as a huge benefit!

General Responsibilities

Each coaching session is 60-90 minutes and is usually held at the client's home, in a local library, or online. Our coaches also provide check-ins with clients between their sessions, maintain portal notes on each client, and follow up with parents after each coaching session.

We strongly encourage candidates to visit our website to learn more about who we are and what we do before applying. Our coaches love the opportunity to get access to free ongoing professional development, high quality training and support, over 300 tools to support Executive Function skills, and the chance to really make a difference in a person’s life.
