Job Description

Connecticut Education Center (CEC) serves students in Pre-K through 8th grade with all facets of intellectual/developmental disabilities, mental health diagnoses and/or social and emotional limitations which also may be accompanied by behavioral challenges. CEC is located on a beautiful 16 acre campus in Historic Enfield, CT and, as part of the Positive Regard Network, has access to a full range of administrative support, training services and staffing.

CEC is currently seeking candidates for a Full Time, 12 month, licensed Special Education Teacher position.

Special Education Teachers serve students in a creative and positive learning environment by:

- Providing & instructing age/grade appropriate lesson plans; obtaining and/or developing appropriate curricular materials in all subjects;

- Completing & maintaining evaluation records;

- Providing appropriate homework and assigning & correcting student work;

- Arranging for testing of students as prescribed by IEP & advocating for other testing/service needs;

- Administering standardized & informal tests appropriate to credentials;

- Providing input for IEP development & treatment planning; providing rough draft IEP for Team meetings with input from appropriate service providers;

- Attending IEP, review & emergency meetings

Successful candidates will receive extensive training at our Center School location in Holyoke, MA prior to assignment at CEC.

    Job Requirements

    • Applicants must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred. Current/Valid Connecticut Special Education licensure is required: Comprehensive Special Education K-12 (165); Comprehensive Special Education PK-12 (065); Comprehensive Special Education 1-12 (265); Mentally Handicapped 1–12 (051); or Integrated Early Childhood/Special Ed., Nursery–K–Elem., 1–3 (113). Candidates dually licensed in Massachusetts preferred (MA DESE licenses: Moderate Disabilities PK-8 or 5-12 or Severe Disabilities, All Levels); prior experience working with students with moderate to severe special needs is strongly preferred.

      NOTE: All candidates who have been given an offer of employment will be subject to background screening, including: state and federal criminal history check (fingerprinting), DCF background check, and sex offender registry check
    • At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred
    • Bachelor degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
