Job Description

The Schwartz School operates a year round school program, approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a special education school, designed to educate and support students ages 3 to 22 years old with physical and cognitive disabilities. We have a long-standing reputation in the community as a provider of exceptional educational and therapeutic services for children with special needs. Our compassionate and professional staff includes licensed teachers, licensed therapists in the areas of speech/language pathology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and sensory integration/sensory processing, nurses and related paraprofessionals.

About this Role:

The Special Education Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating, overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the Schwartz School program. A key focus in this position will be to communicate with parents and school districts. They will be responsible for increasing school enrollment and creating sustainable parent engagement. They will facilitate all evaluation and IEP team meetings and prepare the appropriate documentation.

All school Special Education Teachers and Teacher Assistants will report directly to the Special Education Coordinator. They will be responsible for their direct supervision and management, performing observations and performance evaluations, ensuring appropriate licensure compliance, facilitating team meetings, providing professional development opportunities for all staff, and for hiring and dismissal of employees.

The Special Education Coordinator is responsible for maintaining regulations set by the Massachusetts Department of Education and Secondary Education.

    Job Requirements

    • Licensed by the Massachusetts DESE as a Special Education Administrator, OR Masters Degree in Special Education, Licensed by the Massachusetts DESE as a Special Education Teacher Severe/Profound (3-22), and 1 year of experience in school administration
      5+ years experience teaching at elementary, middle or high school level
      School administrative experience preferred
