Job Description

Prospect Hill Academy Charter School is a highly successful, urban K-12 public school with the mission of preparing each student for success in college, fostering responsible citizenship, and inspiring a lifelong love of learning.

At Prospect Hill Academy, the prevailing belief is that with hard work, effective effort, perseverance through adversity, committed teachers, and invested parents, all students are capable of academic, intellectual, social, and moral excellence. Fueling this conviction are seven core values that guide the daily life and culture of the school—
(1) High Expectations: Each student can do and be whatever s/he wants; (2) Equity: Access and opportunity drive achievement; (3) Personalization: One size does not fit all; (4) Cultural Proficiency: We see, honor, and embrace differences; (5) Collaboration: Many minds are better than one; (6) Balance: Both-and, not either-or; (7) Inquiry: Decisions are strategic and informed by data; and (8) Accountability: If students fail, we all fail.

Job Summary: Prospect Fellows is a 14-month teacher residency at Prospect Hill Academy Charter School, in partnership with Boston University’s School of Education. This program’s mission is to provide PHA students with excellent teachers by preparing aspiring educators from underrepresented backgrounds to implement rigorous, relevant, and restorative instructional practices.

Prospect Fellows is a small, intentional program that provides participants with the skills they need to implement rigorous, data-driven curriculum in an engaging and restorative learning environment. Our unique focus on restorative rather than punitive discipline practices gives teachers and students tools to build healthy communities, develop socio-emotional skills, repair harm, and restore relationships.

Being a Prospect Fellow is an immersive experience. The 14-month residency includes year-round, full-time student teaching in an experienced supervising teacher’s classroom, along with graduate coursework at Boston University’s School of Education, resulting in licensure in a variety of areas and an optional Masters in Education. Please note that the listed $23,000 salary includes the full 14 month period, with a $2,000 stipend for the "summer institute" and a $21,000 salary for the remaining 12 months.

Applications will be accepted and evaluated on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. We strongly recommend applying before the end of the 2018 calendar year. Any applications received after February 22, 2019 will be considered for the wait list.
