Job Description

The WPS District is posting an immediate opening for a Pre-K Referral and Evaluation Coordinator at its Westborough Early Childhood Center. The weekly schedule is flexible.

- All candidates must hold a MA Department of Education License in Moderate Disabilities [PK-8] or Severe Disabilities [All Levels].
- Experience working with preschool students with academic and/or emotional disabilities.
- Two years of experience conducting child assessments at the early childhood level for the purposes of determining eligibility for special education services
- Candidates who also hold MA Department of Education License PK-2 are preferred
Reports to: Early Childhood Director, Westborough Early Childhood Center
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The Westborough Early Childhood Center is currently seeking a caring, highly motivated, competent and skilled individual to join our exceptional team to coordinate the eligibility determination for special education services for young children students with diverse academic and emotional needs. The Pre-K Referral and Evaluation Coordinator has a range of responsibilities including conducting screenings and evaluations, monitoring response to intervention processes, and supporting family engagement by providing resources and training. The Pre-K Referral and Evaluation Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the intake process for children ages 3-5 referred for special education services. In addition to being a skilled teacher and evaluator, the district is looking for a flexible, proactive problem solver with excellent organization and communication skills to join our team.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide developmental screening and evaluations to preschool children referred for special education services
- Manage the transition process for children referred from Early Intervention in accordance with mandated timelines
- Manage the initial screening and evaluation process for community referrals in accordance with mandated timelines
- Prepare required reports and Individual Education Plans (as needed) for initial eligibility determination meetings
- Monitor the pre-kindergarten response to intervention process
- Develop and implement parent resources and trainings related to the eligibility determination processes
- Provide direct special education services to children in community settings
Job Requirements:
- Strong case-management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Strong classroom management skills, able to provide a high degree of structure and consistently enforce school and classroom rules and policies
- Familiarity with and understanding of all components of the IEP
- Ability to identify and write skill-specific, measurable IEP goals and objectives
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues to create and implement IEPs
- Understanding of writing correct and complete IEPs
- Ability to meet deadlines with required paperwork
- Experience with Esped or similar IEP writing programs
- Experience working with students with diagnosed academic and emotional disabilities
- Ability to create and recommend academic interventions, goals and accommodations
- Ability to proactively communicate with teachers, service providers, and families
- Ability to work independently to meet timelines
- Ability to generate and use data to document student progress and achievement; assess and analyze student strengths; and design and implement appropriate interventions
- Knowledge of transitional planning and the role of a special educator in the transition planning process
