Job Description

Under general supervision of the Librarian/Media Specialist and as part of the library/media program, the Library Technical Services Assistant performs many support activities involved in operating a library by assisting the Library Media Specialist. The Library Technical Services Assistant works in both user and technical services. User services involve working directly with the school community to help them find information and resources they need. Technical services is focused on preparing materials for use in the library. The Library Technical Services Assistant may also work on special projects as designated by the Library Media Specialist.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
End of the Year Overdues/Fines:
Enters overdues/fines into X2.
Emails students regarding overdues/fines.
Updates weekly for accuracy and currency.
Pays particular attention to graduating seniors.
Textbooks:
Catalogs textbooks.
Bar codes textbooks.
Delivers textbooks to departments.
Any other relative duties as assigned.

    Career Vocational and Technical Education (CVTE) is a major part of the educational experience that students receive at Greater Lawrence Technical School. Students spend almost 50% of their educational time learning technical skills and knowledge in a career path that will prepare them for employment prior to graduation. All our Career and Technical programs are approved Chapter 74 programs from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The CVTE curricula associated with these programs have all been aligned with the Massachusetts CVTE Frameworks. Students enrolled in CVTE programs will be expected to attain the Certificate of Proficiency in their chosen CVTE program prior to graduation.

    Students entering freshman year at Greater Lawrence Technical School explore each career and technical program. Using resources such as career counseling and guidance from targeted support staff, students are able to make an informed decision when choosing their future path whether it be college or career. A full complement of student activities and athletics is offered throughout the school year.

    Job Requirements

    • Participates in all the work at the circulation desk including checking in/out and renewing of books, placing holds, updating patrons on their overdue materials/fines.
      Manages the circulation of Kindles/ebooks.
      Encourages students to sign in upon entering the library.
      Instructs patrons on how to use the library catalog, access e-books, access databases, and navigate the library website to find resources.
      Informs patrons of services available and the location of resources.
      Operates all computers, printers, and software applicable to the library/media center. Includes use of Internet, electronic catalog circulation program, access to eBooks (OverDrive), Google Apps (Documents, Presentation, Sheets, Drawing).
      Assist staff and students to locate and check out books and materials.
      Shelves books/other resources and straightens shelves.
      Manages the magazine collection (shelves, inventories, circulates).
      Perform a variety of duties, including processing and maintaining library media; entering records and files; maintain schedule for library media center; and assemble packets and materials for students.
      Catalogs new acquisitions.
      Help conduct periodic inventories of book collection, materials, software and equipment as assigned; store and discard materials according to standard procedures.
      Help maintain the physical appearance and ease of use of the library.
      Evaluate and maintain orderliness of shelved materials; shelve books, periodicals, and newspapers; pull and route materials in need of mending, binding, repairing, or discarding.
      Creates book displays.
      Promotes library programs including collaborating to create and disperse promotional material.
      Supervise students using the library outside of class hours.
      Supervises the library in the absence of the Librarian/Media Specialist.
      Assists in special library projects.
    • High School/Trade School degree preferred
