Then North Crossing Academy’s (NCA) current opening for a program director is for you!

NCA offers three models for full day alternative school programs for students who have experienced challenges in the traditional high school setting. The EDCO North Crossing Therapeutic Day School is an approved special education public day school certified by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to provide special education services to adolescents within the context of a therapeutic environment. This school program serves students in grades 6 – 12 who are academically capable yet whose social and emotional needs require placement in a specialized therapeutic educational setting. Our students may have mental health diagnoses and all share a common need for specially designed instruction provided within a positive, supportive, structured educational environment that offers rigorous academic and clinical intervention delivered by skilled, caring and sensitive educators in collaboration with families and collateral contacts. The EDCO 45 Day Assessment Program and the EDCO Youth Alternative Interim Program within North Crossing Academy are short-term placement options for students with profiles as described above but whose needs for school placement are short term.

The Program Director for North Crossing Academy will be a creative and enthusiastic educational administrator who is current in best practices in social-emotional learning, committed to serving an at-risk population of students, and highly effective in supporting teaching and clinical staff to achieve excellence in their delivery of services to students, while maintaining high expectations for students and staff alike.

Responsibilities:

Program Operations
1. Develop and maintain excellent communication and collaboration with parents, students, school district personnel, outside agencies, EDCO central office staff and EDCO Program Directors
2. Manage and execute student recruitment and admissions activities to ensure responsiveness to district needs
3. Manage and coordinate special education process for enrolled students: scheduling, participation in TEAM meetings, overseeing the execution and follow through on all associated special education paperwork and procedures
4. Ensure current, best practice activities related to effective instructional and clinical practices for students with emotional, social and behavioral needs with corollary outreach to organizations with expertise to insure continuous program improvement
5. Ensure program compliance with all applicable school laws and regulations
6. Coordinate and develop school year and summer schedule for staff and students
7. Provide oversight and management of student behavioral needs, including intervention as needed
8. Ensure high standards and implementation of rigorous educational programs through supervision of curriculum development, direct classroom teaching and consultation to EDCO program staff, school districts and parents.
9. Oversee and continue to develop transition opportunities for students

Personnel Management
10. With Executive Director, identify staffing needs, recruit, coordinate, interview and hire to meet these needs
11. Observe, supervise, and evaluate program staff and contracted consultants.
12. With Executive Director and staff, identify, plan and implement staff development and staff orientation
13. Insure that program staff is knowledgeable of and adheres to EDCO policies and procedures

Fiscal Management
14. With Executive Director, prepare annual program budget,
15. Responsible for administration and oversight of approved budget

    Job Requirements

    • Qualifications:
      1. Master's degree or high in special education or educational administration
      2. DESE certification as school administrator of special education and school psychologist required
      3. Experience/training in supervision and evaluation of school based staff preferred
      4. A minimum three years' experience in special education or school administration preferred
      5. Training, experience, knowledge in disability areas, particularly that of social, emotional, and behavioral needs of middle/high school students and behavioral interventions
      6. Knowledge of school law, including, Special Education laws/regulations at the state and federal level
      7. Knowledge of effective curriculum and instructional practices
      8. Strong skills related to organization, coordination of multiple tasks, research and program development
      9. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate successfully, both orally and in writing, with diverse groups of people.
