Job Description

Position: Specialist Instructor - Education Stations
Location: Melrose Elementary Schools
Supervisor: Program Coordinator
Status: Part-time hourly, 10 hours/weekly, $25.00/hour, non union, non benefit eligible. Position runs through the Academic year (approximately mid August - June). Must be available Monday-Friday between the hours of 2:45-4:45 p.m.

Summary Resumes from enthusiastic and fun-loving specialist instructor are being accepted for Education Stations, Melrose Public Schools' after school enrichment program for elementary aged students. The after school program provides balanced enrichment programming at the end of the school day in students' own elementary schools. Professional staff members engage students in a creative, motivating and cooperative atmosphere to further inquiry and development. Applicants must include their availability Monday through Friday to travel to five elementary sites during the week.

Responsibilities
  1. Present activities based on the following topics, included but not limited to: arts & crafts, drama, cultural exchange, specific hobby presentations, music, dance, community, language and technology. Open to other ideas/subjects.
  2. Manage a classroom of 10-25 students, with support from other after school team members.
  3. Promote a fun, safe and inclusive atmosphere for students involved and progressing through activities, accounting for all children and managing positive behavior.
  4. Assist in maintaining program schedule, keeping students involved and progressing through activities, accounting for all children and managing positive behavior.
  5. Provide direction to support staff members in the room, including group leaders and mentors.
  6. Set-up and clean-up all supplies or materials used leaving classrooms in good condition.
  7. Submit differentiated lesson plans and material requests two weeks in advance of lesson date.
Qualifications
  1. High School graduate and a minimum of 21 years of age.
  2. Current certification or working toward teacher certification preferred.
  3. Demonstrated experience with elementary age students is preferred.
  4. Able to remain calm in an energetic, noisy environment.
  5. Experience leading, prioritizing, delegating, and working as part of a larger team.
  6. Ability to pass a Background Check including Fingerprinting and a CORI/SORI records exam with no record of conviction or plea of nolo contender for any crime of violence involving a minor and no record of arrest or conviction for any crime involving sexual misconduct or moral turpitude.
  7. Must be in compliance with the City's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace policy.
  8. Punctual, reliable and regular attendance is required.

The employee is required to hear, feel and talk and speak English. The employee must have close, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Employment is in a school environment and activities occur inside and out. Teachers need to be able to carry up to 20 lbs.
