Job Description

The Amherst, Pelham, and Amherst-Pelham Regional Public School Districts are seeking highly qualified applicants for a part-time 80% Physical Therapist to provide consultation and direct service to student with a wide variety of disabilities and needs. The position includes consultation, direct services, formal and informal assessment, collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team, close collaboration with parents, consultation and communication with outside health care providers, student advocacy, and staff/parent training/support as needed.
Bilingual and bi-cultural applicants are preferred.

All applicants must hold a valid Massachusetts Physical Therapist license, a valid drivers license and have reliable personal transportation to travel to assignments throughout the districts.

Experience, training, and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Experience and training with self-regulation programs Zones of Regulation, Tools of the Mind, S'cool Moves, etc.
Experience with varied profiles and disabilities including but not limited to physical impairments, intensive special needs, cerebral palsy, seizure disorders, cognitive impairments, autism, learning disabilities, emotional impairments, attention/hyperactivity, social cognition, and other low incident disabilities
Experience with and commitment to inclusion that benefits students socially, emotionally and academically
Experience with providing therapies in an inclusion based setting as well as in a separate therapy space
Experience collaborating with other providers to provide an integrated approach such as during physical education
Experience and ability to modify and adapt gross motor activities to facilitate the inclusion of students with their non-disabled peers
Experience working with collaboratively with families and providing in home or school based training as needed
Experience with providing teacher and para-educator staff training
Experience with a diverse population of students within a multi-cultural school / community
Training and experience with developmentally appropriate formal and informal assessment tools
Experience with writing comprehensive IEPs and related IEP documentation
Experience with administering and interpreting formal and informal assessments, as well as strong interpretation and report writing skills
Strong ability to analyze data to assess growth and program efficacy as well as to develop programs with measurable outcomes
Strong positive, interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with students, staff, program coordinators, administration and families
Strong ability to work as a member of a professional learning community and multi-disciplinary team
Highly effective oral and written communication skills that promote and encourage collaboration with colleagues, parents, and administrators
Strong ability to multi-task and work within a fast paced environment highly effective executive function skills including being well organized, strong time management skills, and able to work independently to meet time lines
Willingness to travel between school buildings for the provision of services and submit for mileage based upon state rates


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee may also be required to use physical interventions to maintain the safety of students.
