Argosy Collegiate Charter School – Middle School ELL Teacher & Reading Specialist

Argosy Collegiate invites passionate, mission-driven educators to apply for a middle school ELL Teacher & Reading Specialist position for the 2018-19 academic year. Educators who are passionate about literacy and language acquisition, enthusiastic in implementing best practices in literacy and language instruction, and committed to excellence are encouraged to apply. Applicants must hold MA licensure in ELL. Argosy Collegiate is hiring for our fifth year in educating and serving the scholars of Fall River.

The ELL Teacher & Reading Specialist works with scholars, staff, and families to help coordinate and increase the effectiveness of Argosy’s school wide intervention programs, including supporting English Language Learners through SEI strategies as well as small group data-driven reading instruction. The ELL Teacher & Reading Specialist is committed to the Argosy Collegiate Charter School Board of Trustee’s policies regarding equity, human rights and cross cultural understanding and reports directly to the Director of Student Support.

• Professional degree from an accredited college
• ESL licensure required by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
• Experience with providing high quality professional development preferred
• Experience with utilizing data in designing, organizing and implementing small group interventions
• Experience with working in inclusion, push-in settings
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with general educators, special educators, school leadership, and ESL/Reading Specialist staff to ensure all students' needs are met
• Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and consistently, both orally and in writing
• Effective active listening skills
• Organizational, creative and problem-solving skills

• Organize and execute effective small group reading interventions using high quality, research-based reading instruction
• Develop and execute high quality lesson and unit plans
• Collaborate with general education teaching staff on incorporating SEI strategies in classroom settings and best practice literacy strategies
• Work with Directors of Student Support and Curriculum/Instruction on language development for all scholars
• Execute ACCESS testing for scholars with ELL support
• Assist in building a positive community with incoming staff, scholars and their families.

• Create a positive, warm, and achievement-oriented environment based on high expectations that engages, encourages and motivates all students to own their learning, behavior, and choices.
• Hold all students to a high bar of excellence, integrity and accountability for representing Argosy Collegiate, not making excuses for them or ourselves; uphold behavior standards at all times including transitions, field trips, and school events.
• Work with school leadership to ensure discipline policies and classroom management are consistent and effective.
• Effectively communicate with students, families, and colleagues by exemplifying Argosy Collegiate’s DREAM values.

• Attend and actively engage in all professional development, data analysis, and team planning meetings.
• Be reflective, responsible, and solutions-oriented in our problem solving and perspective, collaborating with peers, team leaders, and school leadership to improve instructional, cultural, and leadership systems and structures.
• Engage in a continuous cycle of feedback and improvement with frequent observations, feedback meetings, the use of video and practice models for instruction, planning, and classroom management.
• Participate enthusiastically in both formal and informal learning and development opportunities.

• Teaching experience preferred in an urban or charter school setting with proven track record for closing the achievement gap.

• BA/BS in education or content area (required) or Master’s Degree in education or related field (preferred).
• Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese a strong plus.
• Citizenship, residency, or work VISA in the U.S. required.
• MTELs in Communication & Literacy and in content area by the end of the first year of employment.
• SEI endorsement by the end of the first year of employment.
• Hold MA licensure in content area by the end of the first year of employment.
