Job Description

Located in Hingham, MA, Derby Academy is among the oldest co-educational schools in the nation. As the best educational choice for students in grades Pre-K – 8, we presently seek an experienced and enthusiastic music educator for Choral and Band classes in Grades 4-8.
A Master’s degree in music education is ideal, together with at least two years of teaching experience. The music curriculum incorporates an approach based upon Zoltan Kodály’s philosophy and pedagogy, and fosters connections between music and students’ academic courses.
The following attributes are necessary for success in the role we seek to fill:
• Flexibility, with high value placed on peer collaboration;
• Knowledge/open to learning Kodaly and Orff pedagogies;
• Experience with curriculum development;
• High level of musicianship [at least in area of expertise - more than 1 is a bonus]
• Ability to model high quality vocal technique (LS or Choral positions)
• Ability to perform at a high level on an instrument (within domain of position)
• Appropriate other instrumental skills (piano, guitar, ukulele, other secondary instruments); and
• A minimum of two years classroom teaching experience
