Job Posting for High School Milieu Counselor

Dearborn Academy, one of New England’s leading 766 approved therapeutic day schools, is seeking a full time Milieu Counselor for the 2018-2019 school year. Dearborn enrolls up to one hundred students in grades 3-12 who have specific learning disabilities and/or mild to moderate emotional challenges. Our rich academic program-- which includes vocational and career training, diversified student supports and explicit instruction-- combined with our strong clinical component, enables students who have been unsuccessful in previous school settings to achieve substantial gains.

The successful candidate for this challenging and rewarding position will have the following qualities and experience:
- Demonstrated compassion and kindness towards students, families and staff
- Belief that students who demonstrate unexpected behaviors have gaps in their skills, and a passion for modeling how to teach students new, effective skills
- Proven ability to form relationships with students, families and co-workers
- Belief that suspension is a last resort and interest or experience with restorative justice practices
- Experience using data to help inform and shape teaching and therapeutic interventions
- Ability to serve as a role model for staff and students

Milieu Counselor duties include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting daily therapeutic check-ins with students
- Teaching and modeling stress management skills
- Implementing behavior supports
- Providing structure and support throughout the milieu
- Assisting in academic classes

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Experience working with students with learning and emotional challenges

The Dearborn Academy Milieu Counselor works 10 months.
