Job Description: Experiential Physical Educator
Reports to: Middle and High School Principal(s)
Openings: 2

Positional Goal: The Experiential Physical Educator provides comprehensive leadership through designing, implementing, and expanding day long and overnight programming to the students of Valley Collaborative. The educator is responsible for enforcing safe practices as outlined in the Experiential Physical Education field manual and proper care and storage of pertinent gear and materials. Additionally the educator is responsible for the procurement of current and relevant trainings/certifications in their field of employment and fostering/promoting relationships with Valley Collaborative vendors. The design and updating of the Experiential Physical Education Binder is an additional goal of the programs designers.

Essential Performance Responsibilities: The Educator, Experiential Physical Education shall:
1. Assist in the planning and development of trips/classes.
2. Lead, guide, and be responsible for the safety of students and staff during day and overnight trips.
3. Conduct pre-trip meetings with participants and staff.
4. Maintain, clean, organize, and repair Experiential Physical Education Program equipment.
5. Assist and perform pre- and post-trip logistics and administrative tasks.
6. Scout, inspect and prepare trip locations and necessary equipment.
7. Maintain student out forms and daily trip reports on each trip.
8. Responsible for all facets of the trip including but not limited to; execution, driving, camp set up, trip equipment management, daily food preparation, and overall logistical leadership.
9. Recognize and respond effectively to incidents and emergencies.
10. Respond to and follow all risk management/emergency procedures.
11. Provide proper emergency care (first aid/CPR/AED/evacuation) when necessary.
12. Adhere to all policies and procedures on and off school property during all trips.
13. Submit incident/injury report forms with appropriate documentation in timely manner.
14. Responsible for participants overall physical and emotional safety, health, and experience during and after trips
15. Maintenance and proactive recertification of pertinent licensure (Wilderness First Responder, American Canoe Association, American Mountain Guides Association, Appalachian Mountain Club Youth Opportunity Program Winter and Backpacker Certification).
16. Stay current on outdoor trends, verbiage, and practices.
17. Create and maintain a positive and successful wellness center environment.
18. Clean and organize wellness center.
19. Create, maintain, and oversee bouldering wall development and safety.

Requirements:
1. Bachelor Degree or higher
2. DESE, Physical Education or Moderate Disability Licensure
3. Wilderness First Responder
4. ACA Canoe Instructor
5. AMGA Climbing Wall Instructor
Preferred Certifications:
1. Appalachian Mountain Club YOP Leader
2. Leave No Trace Instructor
3. ACA Swift Water Rescue
4. AIARE Avalanche Level I
Physical Demands:

• Constant standing or walking
• Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Bends, reaches, lifts, carries, twists, pushes, pulls, and handles equipment when performing duties
• Able to reach and operate equipment and systems safely and effectively

Other Competencies (skills, abilities, behavior):
Ability to understand and follow both written and oral instructions. Adaptability to perform routine, repetitive tasks within a specific period of time. Prioritizes work assignments to be completed within time requirements.

Must demonstrate a positive and caring attitude toward students, clients, and staff. Must remain flexible and adaptable in order to meet department needs.
