Job Description

St. Catherine of Siena Parish is in search of a well-qualified candidate to encompass three roles within the Parish, a part time music teacher, a youth choir director and a Cantor at the Parish. The ideal candidate will be able to support all three roles, preference will be given to those applicants that can fulfill all three positions.

1. Position: Part-Time Music Teacher – Saint Catherine of Siena School
Supervisor: Mary Russo, School Principal
Start date: August 28, 2018
Days/week: Four days per week/six periods per day

Job description:
• Plans and teaches a balanced music education program to all students from PreSchool to Grade 8 - four days per week, six periods per day
• Prepares and conducts developmentally appropriate lessons for a range of students
• Uses a variety of instructional approaches in classroom teaching; integrates technology as a tool to support instruction, as needed
• Conducts ongoing assessment of students’ musical learning and progress to inform instruction
• Creates a respectful, safe classroom learning environment by active supervision of students according to the school’s policies and procedures for managing student behavior
• Plans, rehearses, and directs repertoire for Christmas Concert, Spring Concert, Talent Show, Kindergarten Graduation and performances at other school events
• Organizes class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be provided within the schedule of the school • Deepens students’ liturgical formation and prepares students for singing reverently and enthusiastically in worship of God at monthly School Masses, First Communion Mass, and other Masses
• Integrates seasonal liturgical music into weekly classroom lessons
• Plans appropriate liturgical music and provides worship aids for School Masses, the Graduation Mass, and devotions such as the May Procession, the Living
Stations of the Cross, prayer services, and retreats
• Serves as Cantor at School Masses
• Maintains high professional standards consistent with the mission of the school and the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
• Prepares and implements annual Professional Development Plan to keep abreast of current developments in music and liturgy
• Performs other duties as required by the Principal to support the order, safety, and smooth operation of the school

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Music (vocal performance preferred)
• Valid teaching license in music education for Pre-School – Grade 8 (or in process of acquiring license)
• Minimum of 3 years successful and relevant teaching experience
• Strong knowledge of and experience with Roman Catholic liturgical music and the Liturgical Year
• Ability to communicate effectively with administrators, faculty, parents, and parish staff to support students
• Willingness to engage in self-evaluation of performance and professional growth
PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE ELEMENTS:
• Ability to use a computer keyboard for up to 8 hours/day.
• Ability to sit for up to 8 hours/day.
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

2. Position: St. Catherine of Siena Parish Cantor
Supervisor: Mr. Kirk Hartung, Director of Music and Organist
Start date: Late August 2018 (possible earlier transition)
Hours/week Varies. Compensated on a per service basis

Job description;
•Sundays, some Saturdays, Holy Days, Holidays (including Monday holidays)
•2-3 times per month with Children's Choir at Sunday 9:00am Mass
•Funerals (shared with one other cantor, 100-120 parish funerals per year)
•Weddings (10-15 per year)
•Sing with Adult Choir at Sunday 11:00am Mass
•Rehearsals with Music Director as needed
•Sing at annual wedding and funeral music programs

Qualifications:
•Music degree (vocal performance preferred)
•Cantor experience and training
•Knowledge of and experience with Roman Catholic liturgy/music
PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE ELEMENTS:
• Ability to sit for up to 8 hours/day.
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

3. Position: St. Catherine of Siena Parish Children's Choir
Supervisor: Mr. Kirk Hartung, Director of Music and
Organist Start date: Late August 2018, Rehearsals begin in
September Hours/week: 5

Job description:
•Co-direct the Youth Choral Program (YCP)
•Assist with music selections for school and weekend liturgies
•Assist with scheduling dates for Sunday Masses
•After school study hall (ASH) from 2:30-3:30pm on Thursdays
•Rehearsal Thursdays 3:30-4:30pm
•Sunday rehearsal from 8:15-9:00am
•Encouraging and administering Junior Cantor program 5th-8th grade
•Two/three concert services per year for Children's Choir
•Two/three social events per year for Children's Choir
•Family Mass (9:00am) 2-3 times per month
•Assist with music selection for First Communion, Confirmation Masses, and Family Stations of the Cross in consultation with Music Director and DRE
•May Procession

Qualifications:
•Music degree (vocal performance preferred)
•Keyboard skills desired
•Conducting experience
•Knowledge of and experience with Roman Catholic liturgy/music
