Job Description


Under the direction of the recovery high school principal/director and the Woodward Day School Site Director, provide rigorous, content area academic instruction, including project-based learning opportunities and skill development to help ensure an educational pathway to college and/or career readiness. Must be committed to building trusting and sincere adult relationships consistent with the mission and values of supporting students in recovery, and maintain effective collaboration with service providers, families and the recovery community at large.


• Teach and instruct in subject matter areas commonly found in a comprehensive secondary education program
• Utilize an adopted course of study, instructional program guidelines, and other materials in planning and developing lesson plans and teaching outlines
• Pursue a variety of methodology in teaching and instructing students, including lectures, demonstrations, discussions, lectures, and laboratory experiences
• Conduct teaching and instructional activities, using educational equipment, materials, books, and other learning aids
• Provide instruction in citizenship and other subject matter specified by legal mandate, district policy, and administrative regulations
• Plan, develop, and utilize a variety of instructional materials and aids appropriate to the intellectual and instructional level of students from varied socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, and who possess a range of mental and emotional maturity
• Review, analyze, and evaluate the history, background, and assessment of students in designing instructional programs to meet individual educational needs
• Individualize and adapt educational processes and procedures to enhance student educational opportunities
• Provide group and individual instruction to motivate students, and effectively utilize the time available for instructional activities
• Maintain appropriate standards of student behavior, using behavioral management strategies and techniques, including positive reinforcement, restorative practice and relationship building strategies
• Review, analyze, evaluate, and report student academic, social, and emotional growth
• Prepare, administer, score, record, and report the results of norm-referenced, criterion referenced and group standardized tests in evaluating student growth and progress
• Communicate with parents, school, and district personnel regarding student progress, and in the interpretation of the educational program
• Cooperatively pursue alternative solutions to address student learning problems, and to enhance expanded academic, social, and emotional growth opportunities
• Participate in professional learning communities and collaborate with colleagues in an effort to enhance the shared school vision and collectively undertake activities and reflection in order to constantly improve their students’ performance.

Essential Functions:

• Develop and implement curriculum, instruction and assessment.
• Instruct individual and small groups of students with disabilities
• Maintain regular, ongoing communication with colleagues and relevant agency representatives.
• Evaluate and grade student course.
• Complete all requisite components of IEPs, professional reports and required data for all students in accordance with student records regulations.
• Implement IEP’s and 504 Plans with fidelity
• Maintain control in emergency/crisis situations, informing appropriate sources, obtaining assistance as needed, dispatching staff as indicated and filing appropriate documentation of same.
