Job Description

Job Title: Grade 1 Classroom Teacher

Qualifications:
1. Master’s Degree in Elementary or Early Childhood Education preferred
2. Massachusetts License as an Elementary or Early Childhood Education Teacher
3. Meets NCLB requirements as a "highly qualified teacher"
4. Knowledge of Guided Reading, Math in Focus and Writer’s Workshop would be beneficial
5. Strong collaboration skills to work with team members
6. Outstanding organization and multi-tasking skills
7. Excellent communication and presentation skills - both oral/ written

Specific Job Tasks:
1. To teach students, in small groups, individual, and large group situations, in all subjects, including mathematics, language arts, science and social studies
2. To work collaboratively with members of a grade level team to plan and implement lessons based on the Common Core State Standards
3. To assess students in all areas of the curriculum, using both formative and summative assessments
4. To communicate effectively and frequently with families regarding curriculum, student progress and classroom activities
5. To use technology and other digital learning tools to enhance instruction
6. To work in tandem with a special education teacher in the classroom

Physical Demands:
1. Ability to lift 25 lbs.
2. Be physically and emotionally capable of carrying-out responsibilities and duties in a busy, computerized environment. This position requires sustained physical activity such as sitting at a desk for several hours a day, hand/wrist movement as in writing or using a computer keyboard/mouse. Other activities may include moderate to frequent exertion in body movements such as standing, walking, reaching, bending and twisting.
3. Vision requirements include the ability to read routine and complex documents and to use a computer.
