Job Description

Cabot School is searching for a dynamic, student-centered teacher to lead our high school mathematics program. The Cabot School is a small school with a cutting edge proficiency and project based high school curriculum. Our learning environments are inclusive; our faculty is highly collaborative. Our next high school math teacher will deliver explicit math instruction to high school students in small classes, grades 9-12. We are seeking someone with strong skills in instruction, the ability to reach a diverse range of learning styles, and the expertise to teach all high school math content, including Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and Statistics. Our ideal candidate has experience working with diverse learners, strong communication skills, and is seeking an opportunity to work collaboratively with colleagues to empower student learning.

Recognizing the need to transform the traditional high school model to meet the demands that a changing world places on our students, we have made a strong commitment to project-based learning, steeping rigorous academics in real-world, relevant experiences and a focus on proficiency-based graduation. Our ideal candidate will be able to connect rigorous, college-preparatory mathematics with practical applications, and empower students to understand both mathematical concepts, as well as their purpose in the post-secondary world.

Core qualifications include:

A Vermont Educator’s license with an endorsement in secondary math, or the ability to acquire appropriate licensure.
Graduate or undergraduate degree focus in Mathematics.
Experience with direct instruction in math required and student self-direction.
A strong understanding of best practices in math instruction and assessment.
Skill in utilizing current technology to support instruction.
A growth mindset, including the belief that strong teachers frequently need to hone their instructional practice to maximize the engagement and academic growth of all students.
A commitment to proficiency-based curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
A passion for working with high-school age youth, and the ability to effectively engage students.
