Position Overview
We are seeking a full-time music teacher who is responsible for teaching daily (45 mins) woodwinds/brass group lessons for students in grades 3-8. Strong classroom management skills and experience are required. Collaboration with other classroom teachers and music staff will also be required in order to help fulfill the vision of an arts integrated school and an in-school El Sistema inspired program. Being a laboratory school, the candidate must also be committed to engaging in creative projects with students as well as exploring culturally relevant repertoire and content.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach large and small group lessons
Co-teach, plan and implement curriculum in conjunction with respective grade level music teachers.
Help create and implement music integrated classroom projects in collaboration with curriculum developer and classroom teachers.
Maintain clean, organized teaching spaces.
Provide necessary instruction and training for those assisting in the classroom (volunteers, interns, parents).
Ensure respectful and open lines of communication with parents by being available through written and oral communication, setting up conferences etc.
Comply with all professional development requirements.
Attend all faculty meetings and scheduled staff events.
Assist with school duties as needed (arrival, dismissal, lunch etc.).
Attend and assist with concerts and performances in and out of school as needed.
Reports to:
Director of El Sistema Music Program
Requirements:
Minimum 3 years experience teaching and implementing curriculum (urban setting very preferable)
Bachelor’s Degree in music (education preferable)
Master’s Degree in music (education preferable)
Massachusetts teaching licensure (preferable)
Ability to work with basic Microsoft and Google programs (word, excel, Google drive etc.)
