Ingenium Schools currently operates four charter schools serving students in Compton, Maywood, and Canoga Park.


Ingenium Wings is a free non-profit public independent study charter school serving students in grades K-12 who have fallen behind in their credits, want to graduate early, or are finding that they need an alternative to a traditional seat based program.


Wings offers a flexible, personalized educational environment to support parents with students in K-8 who want to home school their student. Wings offers blended learning where students can come in for enrichment classes and social interaction for K-5. Students in grades 6-8 will be moving from the home support model to true independent study with the structured support of their teacher.


Students in grades 9-12 will be doing a large portion of their schoolwork at home and will be coming to appointments a minimum of two times a week to receive individualized coaching from their teacher. The teacher will also be holding small group instruction classes in their subject area to be determined by the need of the students in the center.

Wings is seeking competent, energetic, student-centered educators with good resource center management and organizational skills, are able to motivate students, set and hold high expectations, welcome accountability and coaching, and are strong team players.



The lead teacher leads the independent study day-to-day operations and serves as the educational leader and chief administrator of the independent study program. The lead teacher is responsible for leading the implementation of the Ingenium Learning System at the site. The lead teacher: 1) provides educational and administrative support to the independent study professional staff and students; 2) participates in staff, student and community activities; 3) plans, organizes, directs, evaluates and supervises the work performed by the certificated and classified staff; 4) develops, monitors, and directs activities regarding the independent study physical plant (facilities), student activities, and curriculum; and 5) provides instruction to independent study students by developing profound learning experiences.



  • Will hold student appointments and classes as necessary.
  • Continually monitors progress on all measures of Independent Study performance using data and quality tools to identify, develop, and implement systematic improvement as needed.
  • Provides leadership, direction, and support in the formulation, implementation, and annual adjustment of the independent study program.
  • Manages the hiring of independent study teachers, ensuring the correct credentialing makeup and recommends independent study staff candidates for consideration by the school-site principal.
  • Trains independent study teachers and staff, providing on-going, meaningful, relevant, employee-led professional development.
  • Supervises and collaborates with independent study instructional staff, providing consistent and frequent feedback to teachers and staff to ensure quality instruction and student achievement.
  • Collaborates with teachers and staff to develop, set, and monitor performance aims and objectives.
  • Monitors (and ensures that teachers monitor) independent study student growth and achievement.
  • Participates in special-education-related activities, attending meetings and providing support to special educators as needed.
  • Develops partnerships with businesses, communities, and other organizations to help meet identified educational needs and improve school programming as needed.
  • Collects and reviews stakeholder survey data to evaluate program needs and continually improves independent study programming as needed.
  • Confers with parents and staff to discuss educational activities, policies, and student behavioral or learning issues.
  • Encourages teamwork and collaboration and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among independent study employees.
  • Develops constructive and cooperative relationships with employees, parents, students, and other stakeholders.
  • Oversees independent study compliance in testing, admissions, special education, and other instructional areas.
  • Implements policies and programs that encourage intrinsically motivating working and learning environments.
  • Evaluates independent study curriculum and develops or helps develop profound learning experiences for students and staff.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records of the independent study program.
  • Provides academic enrichment and instruction to independent study students as needed.
  • Ensures a safe and orderly school environment.



  • B.A./B.S. degree
  • Clear, valid, CA teaching credential
  • 1-2 years experience managing an Independent Studies resource center preferred
  • 1-2 years experience managing employees and coaching teachers in an educational setting preferred
  • 1-2 years of school leadership experience preferred



Must have the ability to demonstrate and/or show competency in the following areas:

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary
  • Curriculum design, effective teaching and instructional strategies
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
  • Intermediate proficiency in Student Information System or PowerSchool knowledge desired
  • Excellent management and organizational skills and a positive attitude



  • Lift 40 pounds using proper technique
  • Must have adequate vision to effectively review documents in varied formats i.e. paper and digital
  • Must have adequate hearing to respond to members and interact with the public.
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard.
  • Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to file materials
