About Ingenium Schools
Ingenium Schools transforms education by restoring the right to joy and meaning in learning. Since 2009, Ingenium Schools has helped students build confidence, leadership, and a lifelong love of learning with the Ingenium Learning System, an easily replicable, standards-based educational model that promotes personal mastery. Ingenium Schools currently operates four charter schools serving students in Compton, Maywood, Canoga Park, and Winnetka.
Ingenium Wings is a free non-profit public independent study charter school serving students in grades K-12 who have fallen behind in their credits, want to graduate early, or are finding that they need an alternative to a traditional seat based program.
Students in grades 9-12 will be doing a large portion of their schoolwork at home and will be coming to appointments a minimum of two times a week to receive individualized coaching from their teacher. The teacher will also be holding small group instruction classes in their subject area to be determined by the need of the students in the center.
Teachers at Wings will be working closely with their students to design personalized learning plans through Quality Learning Tools. We work with students and parents to create their learning plan with academics, social-emotional learning, flexible scheduling, independent study and classroom based blended learning options, and community service.
Wings is seeking competent, energetic, student-centered educators with good resource center management and organizational skills, are able to motivate students, set and hold high expectations, welcome accountability and coaching, and are strong team players.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Support the mission, vision, and core values of Ingenium Schools
Strive to implement, by instruction and action, Ingenium Schools’ philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
Continuously maintain and improve professional competence
Attend mandatory trainings, professional meetings, and educational conferences, as required
Encourage students to set and maintain minimum standards of classroom behavior, measuring progress through individual and class goal setting
Create a safe, developmentally appropriate classroom environment conducive to learning and based on student interests and goals
Implement and support school/organizational policies governing student life and conduct
Instruct students individually and in groups using various teaching methods: lecture, discussion, demonstration, student-led instruction, etc.
Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ differing needs and interests
Prepare and implement intervention programs for students requiring extra help
In harmony with curriculum goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students daily
Prepare materials and classroom for class activities
Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, and guide students in learning from activities
Consistently and accurately observe and assess students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health, both formally and informally, through observation, authentic performance, and written evaluation
Provide frequent and timely feedback to students and parents on student progress
Recommend resources to parents for additional student growth
Timely deliver accurate and complete written and oral progress reports
Maintain and accurate and complete student records as required by law and Ingenium Schools’ policies
Maintain student confidentiality
Confer with students and parents outside of the instructional day to resolve students’ behavioral and/or academic issues, as needed
Maintain and improve professional competence and participate in professional development opportunities
Actively participate in team meetings and serve on staff committees, school-wide events, parent workshops, and community partnership events
Assist with school/organizational events, general supervision, extra-curricular support, tutoring, etc., as needed
Perform related duties as assigned
Highly effective teaching strategies for all student subgroups
California Common Core State Standards curriculum and instruction
Principles and methods of curriculum design
Effective measurements of learning/assessments, including diagnostic, formative and summative, performance tasks and project evaluation
English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
Mathematics, including arithmetic, geometry, algebra, etc.
Child cognitive development and learning styles
Learning and motivational strategies that extend all students towards high academic and personal achievement
Computer application and Internet search skills
Establish a culture of high expectations based on the belief that all students can be successful
Develop and implement lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with Common Core State Standards and Ingenium Learning System
Analyze qualitative and quantitative student data; create and track efficacy of data-driven action plans
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Use computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement student learning
Effectively collaborate with colleagues, parents, and community
Manage student behavior to ensure every student is fully engaged, productive, and safe
Maintain positive attitude
Maintain regular attendance
Valid California teaching credential or permit authorizing instruction in 9-12 classrooms
English Language Learner Authorization
CPR/First Aid (provided by Ingenium post-hire)
Majority of duties performed indoors in a classroom; some activities require outdoor supervision
