JOB TITLE:  Assistant Custodian

REPORTS TO:  Building Principal and Maintenance Supervisor


JOB SUMMARY:  Under general supervision performs a variety of custodial duties and general care of school building(s) and surrounding grounds to ensure a safe and clean school building for students, staff and community.  Full job description available upon request.



  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Criminal history clearance (background check and HB 2062).
  3. Hold a valid Oregon driver’s license.
  4. Basic keyboarding and computer knowledge.



  1. Cleans areas as assigned (i.e. rooms, halls, offices, rest rooms, cafeteria, etc.), vacuums, shampoos, sweeps, scrubs, waxes, polishes, mops and buffs all types of floor surfaces.
  2. Washes windows, white boards, walls, doors and baseboards.
  3. Cleans and polishes furniture, windows, metal work and computer screens.
  4. Maintains indoor and outdoor lighting.
  5. Keeps walks, parking areas, grounds and entrances clear and clean of debris.
  6. Washes, scrubs, disinfects restrooms and locker rooms, as well as cleans sinks, fixtures, panels and drinking fountains.
  7. Checks and stocks bathroom supplies.
  8. Reacts to change in schedule(s) productively.
  9. Cleans up spills (including bodily fluids) in a safe and appropriate manner, picks up trash and responds to special requests for custodial services from staff members with supervisor approval.
  10. Sets up, takes down and moves tables, chairs, equipment, shelving and partitions for meetings, athletic events and other District needs, as assigned.
  11. Unlocks doors and windows, turns on lights and prepares buildings for start of day and/or locks doors and windows, turns off lights and secures buildings at end of day.
  12. Makes minor repairs (i.e., sinks, tiles, lockers, change light bulbs, etc.).
  13. Empties and cleans waste containers.
  14. Sets and maintains temperature control in assigned building.
  15. Maintains building security.
  16. Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to supervisor.
  17. Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff and parents and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
  18. Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours, as required.
  19. Attends work regularly and is punctual.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Full time/12 month position.  Salary (code 6) with excellent benefits, based on current OSEA salary schedule and negotiated agreement.
