Job Description

Provide speech-language services to special needs students in special education and general education classroom settings. Participate in Special Needs team evaluation process and IEP development.
• Thoroughly assess and evaluate speech, hearing and language development problems and monitor progress on a regularly scheduled basis.
• Plan and schedule individual and group therapy sessions for children with speech and hearing problems or disorders.
• Provide therapy to alleviate or correct speech disorders; therefore improving children’s speech.
• Conduct individual and group conferences with students, parents, teachers, school administrators, school nurses and others concerned with the welfare of the child.
• Work with classroom teachers to synthesize speech rehabilitation objectives with work done in the classroom.
• Work closely with parents of children receiving speech therapy.
• Create and implement IEPs.
• Maintain adequate records and progress reports on children.

    Job Requirements

    • Certified Speech-Language Pathologist. Experience and evidence of expertise working to prevent, assess, diagnose and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders in children.
      • Master’s Degree preferred.
      • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with administrators, colleagues, school based staff, students, parents and community members.
      • Ability to manage challenging behavior, and possess the skills, knowledge and expertise to teach and promote positive behavior.
      • Demonstrates patience, understanding and empathy with pupils and parents.
      • Ability to provide augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems for students with severe expressive and/or language comprehension disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder or progressive neurological disorders.
