CTE Teacher (1.0 FTE)

Family and Consumer Sciences/Health Occupations


Washougal High School

7 hours per day

5 days per week

180 days per year (per District calendar)

Purpose Statement:

The job of a Secondary CTE Teacher is to facilitate student success in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students while providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.



Essential Functions

Must adhere to the Career Education and Technical program standards set by the Superintendent of Public Instruction for Career and Technical Education in Washington State. Standards include:

  • Provide student leadership opportunities for further growth and professional development
  • Lead and/or participate in CTE Advisory Committee meetings
  • Attend state-sponsored, required workshops and conferences
  • Articulate classes with post-secondary education when possible
  • Develop and maintain business partnerships
  • Design learning experiences and assessments that allow students to demonstrate learning
  • Provide opportunities for students to achieve industry certifications


-Teach to district approved course goals and objectives.


-Evaluate individual students and appropriately report student progress.


-Instruct students in citizenship and subject matter specified by state law and administrative regulations of the school district.


-Provide individual and group instruction so that each student can achieve scholastic educational objectives.


-Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.


-Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator in the evaluation process in conformance with the approved district guidelines.


-Develop and use instructional materials suitable for the instruction of students with wide ranges of mental, physical, and emotional maturation.


-Establish and maintain standard of student behavior needed to achieve effective participation in all activities.


-Evaluate intellectual and social growth of students and keep appropriate records.


-Communicate with parents.  Hold parent conferences to discuss the individual student's progress.


-Maintain records and submit reports as required or appropriate.


-Participate in curricular and other developmental programs as required.


-Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.


-Create an effective and interactive classroom environment (both live and digital) for learning.


-Subscribe to the notion "student success is a teacher's paramount responsibility".


-Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during assigned periods.


-Perform other duties as assigned.


Other Functions

  • Assists other personnel for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment. 


  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience with high school students preferred
  • Demonstrated successful experience in the field of Family & Consumer Sciences, with specific teaching experience in Health.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in Health Occupations


Education: Bachelor’s degree or Work Experience per Washington State laws and rules for Career and Technical Education


Certificated & License Requirements

  • Must hold a Washington State Career and Technical Education (CTE) teaching certificate in Family & Consumer Science; or be eligible for CTE certification by demonstrating a minimum of three years of gainful employment (non-teaching) in a health occupation field which would allow you to teach CTE health courses; two years within the last six years is preferable
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification from a nationally recognized provider or willing to get instructor certified
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Certificate
