Job Description



Lead teacher in preschool classroom.




Under the supervision of the Director:


Implement a literacy based curriculum in preschool classroom.


Prepare relevant education tools, materials and teaching aids for classroom use.


Tutor individual or small groups of students with classroom assistant.


Monitor student progress in classroom and other school activities.


Observe and evaluate students’ developmental and academic progress.


Administer and score objective assessment materials.


Develop, organize, and monitor both inside and outside activities.


May provide specialized attention to the needs of disabled or handicapped students.


Operate computers, digital camera, and other equipment in the classroom.


Organize, plan and accompany groups of students on field trips and other outings.


Reinforce children’s listening, verbal, pre-reading, pre-writing, and pre-math skills.


Establish conferences with parents.


Encourage the integration of preschool students into instructional and social activities offered by the larger school community.


Attend relevant in-service training sessions and workshops.


Supervise the preschool teaching assistant.

Reports to Director of Early Childhood Programs




Required Education and Experience: 


Baccalaureate Degree in education or related field; or equivalent specialized training with background in early childhood education (CDA, ECE Certificate or AA degree in Early Childhood Education.)  Experience working individually with children with diverse aptitudes and levels of achievement preferred.  Training in literacy based preschool curriculum preferred.

Child development and behavior management

Health, safety, injury prevention and sanitation practices

Communication and human relations

Problem solving and conflict resolution with children and adults

Work with preschool age children

Work collaboratively with staff and parents

Organize and complete tasks

Observe confidentiality

Perform all duties in accordance with applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements Meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations




AISP pay range C ($ 20.53 - $ 21.53 per hour), 20-40 hours per week for a 186-260-day annual assignment.


This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement that requires a membership or representation fee as an ongoing condition of continued employment after an individual is hired.



Note: Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be completed. The successful candidate for this position must be fingerprinted. Employment is contingent upon clearance by Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation.
