TITLE OF POSITION:                      Mathematics Intervention Specialist

DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO:         Deputy Superintendent

CONTRACT PERIOD:                       200 Days, Classified Position not within the Bargaining unit for the                                                        duration of a 2-year grant project (July 2018 – May 2020)

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:    Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education      

CERTIFICATION:                            Valid Kansas Teaching Certificate with Mathematics K-9 Endorsement

EXPERIENCE:                                   Four or more years successful teaching experience.


The Mathematics Intervention Specialist will provide direct instruction to students, coordinate math intervention support services, and facilitate professional development for staff and parents. This position requires a highly qualified teacher of mathematics who will work specifically with students who require strategic and intensive intervention, as well as support classroom teachers in high-quality mathematics instruction. The goal of the intervention specialist is to ensure that the students are able to master grade level standards and curriculum by instructing students who at-risk for not meeting these mathematics standards.



In addition to providing direct and appropriate instruction to students identified as in need of math intervention, duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinate the implementation of the math tiered-intervention program.
  • Facilitate after-school math tutoring and extra-curricular support programs for math instruction.
  • Implement, monitor services and provide technical support to school site staff and administrators.
  • Assist in the evaluation of the intervention program and collect and coordinate data to comprehensively monitor student progress.
  • Plan and assist with parent involvement activities and education.
  • Execute and prepare forms, records, and reports as may be called for in the management of the math intervention program.
  • Participate in staff development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum Instructional Specialists in the development of math instructional materials.



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a valid Kansas Teaching License. (Master’s Degree preferred)
  • Four or more years of successful teaching experience.
  • Experience working with students in Grades K-9.
  • Ability to organize time and resources.
  • Background/knowledge in research-based instructional strategies in mathematics.
  • Demonstrated skill in working with at-risk learners.
