Job Description

Do you believe that a student can learn as much (or more) on a farm, in a kitchen, or in an auto garage as in a classroom? Ever wish you could spend more time focusing on what matters to students instead of teaching to the test? Do you want to work somewhere where coworkers are respectfully and joyfully in community with one another? You might be a great fit for Centerpoint School.

Centerpoint School is a therapeutic, special education independent school for students in grades 7 through 12. We serve our students through individualized and small group academics in a therapeutic setting to address their mental health and special education needs. We believe that all students can learn and we support them in this learning through interest-based academics and supportive relationships with caring adults.

Centerpoint School's Counseling Teachers provide direct instruction, experiential education, and supportive counseling services.

Our ideal candidate will have skills and experience in:
  • community-based experiential instruction
  • engaging strengths-based activities
  • creative curriculum strategies based on the Vermont Standards and Framework and Common Core

Our ideal candidate is committed to:
  • excellent team collaboration
  • serving high-needs adolescents
  • creativity and innovation in curriculum and education

Counseling teachers come from a variety of dynamic backgrounds including outdoor education, psychology- or sociology- related fields of study, other youth-centered non-profit work, and education programs of all kinds.

    Some additional details:
  • We use the community as a classroom and a resource for our students' educational and therapeutic goals. As such, we require that Counseling Teachers possess a valid driver's license and a car.
  • This is a full-year position: we offer a fun and creative summer program to our students.
  • We seek teachers from diverse backgrounds and are excited to meet with people with or without teaching licenses.
