General Description: The supervisor of information technology services provides leadership, training, and hands-on work to implement the district’s Technology Plan. This individual supervises a part-time technician.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Identify, use, and evaluate existing and emerging technologies for appropriate use in classrooms, offices, and meeting rooms including software, hardware, and applications.
  • Knowledge of all functions and capabilities of current district technologies.
  • Lead and provide frequent professional development and training to staff.
  • Identify, model, and enforce social, legal, and ethical practices related to technology, including digital citizenship.
  • Maintain current knowledge of and manage security systems, virus protection, Google applications, and hardware configurations.
  • Ensure and manage proper security of all systems.
  • Trouble shoot and problem solve desktop, handheld, and server based technologies.
  • Make recommendations for failing or failed systems.
  • Serve as a member of the district leadership team.
  • Maintain documentation for equipment installation and configuration.
  • Maintain district website, online platform, and social media site.
  • Manage and provide oversight and assistance for student data system, using data to prepare state-required or locally useful reports, grants, and documentation.
  • Interface with end users and technical counterparts in other school and district roles.
  • Develop procedures for technology acquisition and installation.
  • In collaboration with the leadership team, lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the district technology plan.
  • Maintain IT operations within defined budget requirements.
  • Provide for on-call support and/or troubleshooting.
 
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: The IT Systems Supervisor must have:
  • AA degree with technology emphasis (at a minimum).
  • A valid Washington state driver’s license and personal vehicle for in-district use.
  • Leadership/management experience in a technology related field.
  • Knowledge and successful experience with Wide Area Networks, Local Area Networks, Voice Over Internet Protocol, student management systems, learner management systems, Windows server environments, Apple products, and handheld devices.
  • Strong project and personnel management skills (team player, good communicator, good organizational skills) and lead with an “open-door policy.”
  • Advanced training and/or certifications in network, security, and specific equipment. Apple certification is preferred.
  • A vision for the advancement of 21st century technology use in a PreK-12 public school environment, based on an understanding of the rapid advancement of technology and the impact on public schools.
  • Strong writing skills; able to convey procedures in a logical progression for use by novice and experienced end users.
  • Ability to learn quickly and become proficient in emerging technologies.
 
Working Conditions:
  • Moves/walks indoors and outdoors between offices, classrooms, schools and other district facilities in routine job functions.
  • Sits or stands at a desk for periods of time performing data entry.
  • Stands and speaks while providing training for students and/or staff.
  • Uses tools to repair equipment.
  • Uses a ladder and may need to crawl in restricted spaces while accessing wiring or equipment.
  • Experiences frequent interruptions and conflicting demands on work time.
  • Occasionally required to lift or carry heavy items/equipment (up to 100 pounds).
  • Frequent requirement to bend and twist while moving equipment.
  • May experience occasional exposure to high noise levels and hazardous environments.
