Position Description:

  1. Performs needed routine plumbing, electrical and mechanical repairs as needed; reports major repair or maintenance work requirements to super-visor.
  2. Personally performs custodial duties, assists custodians in a lower classification in doing their work properly and in a timely fashion.
  3. Instructs, trains, and may evaluate (formally and informally) subordinate custodians.
  4. Maintains basic records as required.
  5. Inspects buildings regularly for sanitary and safety hazards, vandalism and fires; makes reports and notifies appropriate authorities.
  6. Insures that buildings are properly secured.
  7. Participates in the complete cleaning and routine maintenance of buildings during vacation periods. Exercises direct supervision over custodians of a lower classification during the performance of these duties.
  8. Replaces locks; repairs lockers.
  9. An employee in this classification may perform any of the indicated duties. However, these examples do not include all the specific tasks which an employee may be expected to perform.

 Special Requirements:   (Certification, training, specialty skills or previous experience)

  1. Must have considerable knowledge of modern cleaning methods and the use and care of cleaning materials and equipment, and reasonable knowledge of the requirements for maintaining school buildings and grounds in a safe, clean and efficient fashion.
  2. Must have reasonable knowledge of the procedures and techniques for making routine electrical, plumbing, and mechanical repairs and skills in the use of cleaning materials, equipment and tools required for routine maintenance.
  3. Must have the ability to coordinate activities, assign work and supervise subordinate employees and instruct custodians in proper and safe custodial procedures, and the ability to perform strenuous physical labor involving the movement of cleaning equipment and furnishings.
  4. Must have the ability to understand oral and written instructions and apply them to the efficient and timely completion of work.
  5. Two years of experience in building maintenance and some supervisory experience desirable.
  6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and school personnel.
  7. Knowledge of safety practices related to building maintenance and grounds maintenance.
  8. Bilingual applicants desired, but not required. Must demonstrate excellent attendance and punctuality.

This position is 8.00 hours per day.
