Job Description

The Dedham Public Schools, home to America’s first tax supported, free public school, is looking for Substitute School Secretaries.


Our school offices are busy places! We are looking for adaptable, experienced office workers who would be available to help (sometimes on short notice) when one of our secretaries needs to be out for a few days (or more).





  • Communicate in a positive and effective manner with staff, students, parents and/or visitors
  • Perform general secretarial tasks including, but not limited to, producing letters, making photocopies, filing, distributing mail, etc.
  • Answer telephones & record messages
  • Sign in/out students and visitors
  • Assist staff and parents with necessary forms and procedures



  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Working knowledge of office management and relevant technology, software and platforms (Microsoft Office & Google Suite)
  • Strong human relation skills 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and oral form
  • Perform general clerical duties
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks
  • Flexability, adaptability and a good sense of humor



  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Some clerical experience.


  • Experience working in a school setting
