Job Description

The Pawtucket School Department and the Leadership Team are seeking a dynamic, knowledgeable leader to collaborate with the special education administration in the coordination of student services for students transitioning in and out of district placements. This is a part time position up to 90 days.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Under the Director of Special Education, the Special Education Outplacement Coordinator works as a member of the special education team to assist with the organization and coordination of special education services for students in transition to out of district placement or returning to district. The Special Education Coordinator will oversee the coordination, administration and oversight of students in out of district placements and services designed to meet the needs of these students with disabilities.

EXEMPLARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Works collaboratively the Special Education administration, school personnel, leaders, administrators and families to ensure that student plans and the implementation of such plans are in accordance with IDEA.
• Coordinates special education services for out of district students Pre-K to 21 years of age.
• Assists in establishing procedures for identifying the needs, abilities and interests of students with disabilities, as well as the development of any new placements related to these students.
• Coordinates support services to assure that all services outlined in a student’s IEP are delivered.
• Serve as LEA out-of-district meetings as assigned.
• Develop transition plans for students returning to district from out of district placements.
• Work collaboratively with district guidance counselors for transcript analysis for out of district students at the secondary level to insure accurate records for promotion and graduation.
• Assists with the development and implementation of procedures in compliance with federal and state special education regulations.
• Encourages participation by supporting parents and ensuring that they are valued members of the IEP team.
• Maintains documentation and oversees that out of district personnel are adequately documenting meetings, parent concerns, and IEP’s are written in compliance with RI guidelines.
• Communicates with the special education administration, on a regular basis, in order to work collaboratively as a team.
• Assumes other responsibilities as directed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Masters Degree in Special Education or related field
• Minimum of 5 years teaching experience as a Special Educator
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Director of Special Educator
• Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
