Job Title:        Finance Specialist

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates degree or two years of college-level accounting classes preferred;
  • Minimum of two years experience in accounting, with preference given for experience in school district purchasing and/or accounting;
  • Working knowledge of applicable computer systems, including word processing and database, and spreadsheet software;
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem-solving skills;
  • Interpersonal skills, in person, in writing, and on the telephone, with diverse populations.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Review incoming payments for adherence with all Board policies, state laws and regulations, and appropriate accounting information;
  • Administer the timely and accuracy of cash receipt activities for the Finance Dept, including preparation of bank deposit slips and recording entries into the financial system. Print batch reports and post cash receipts batch;
  • Review bank downloads of cash account activity for unrecorded entries, create journal entries, and ensure all debit corrections and returned items have been received from the bank. Forward downloads of Nutrition account to Food Service provider;
  • Record deposits made by others within the district such as SAFE Program, gate receipts from athletic events, and Food Service provider entries into financial system;
  • Expedite processing of improper payments and returned checks by notifying school personnel or Food Service provider employees of potential problems, and preparing journal entry;
  • Submit request for reimbursement RFR to PED monthly for each reimbursement fund utilizing PED-OBMS website.
  • Ensure expenditures align with scope of grant or grant proposal-verify with program manager if needed.
  • Prepare indirect cost entry if applicable.

 

Additional Duties

  • Comply with administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state, and federal regulations;
  • Safeguard confidentiality of privileged information;
  • Maintain professional relationships and work cooperatively with employees, the community, and other professionals;
  • Maintain professional competence through individual and district training, in-service educational activities, and appropriate self-selected professional growth activities;
  • Meet deadlines and work on multiple projects;
  • Attend staff meetings and conduct, as may be necessary, training with reference to Cash Receipts or PED RFR process;
  • Employee may be assigned other duties based on the needs of the district during the term of employment.

 

Work Hours: Salary and work year as per adopted Rio Rancho Public Schools Staff Salary Schedule.
