TITLE:             Elementary School Principal              

LOCATION:      Mildred H. Aitken Elementary School

START DATE:   July 1, 2018

                       

REPORTS TO:  Superintendent of Schools

 

EVALUATION:  Annually in accordance with provisions of School Committee Policy

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:  Master’s degree or higher; Massachusetts Elementary School Principal’s certification; minimum of five years of experience in elementary teaching. Administration experience desired.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Promotes a shared vision that makes effective teaching and learning the central focusing of schooling
  • Demonstrates professionalism and promotes positive rapport among administrators, teachers, parents, students and the community
  • Provides leadership in curriculum organization, programs, instructional materials, best practices and current trends
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of Massachusetts Frameworks
  • Conducts meetings of staff, according to contract, for the efficient and proper functioning of the school
  • Works with grade-level teams to use data to identify grade-level and individual student improvement goals.
  • Annually sets measurable objectives for self and school
  • Assists with the analysis of school and district student performance indicators
  • Monitors and supervises all special needs and 504 educational plans and shares responsibility with the Director of Pupil Personnel Services
  • Schedules and coordinates services of staff and specialists, as required.
  • Supervises and evaluates all professional and non-professional staff within the building
  • Supports the district professional development process and oversees the implementation of professional development within the building
  • Recruits, hires, evaluates, and terminates, when necessary, building personnel
  • Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all School Committee policies
  • Develops the school budget in accordance with the district requirements and the Education Reform Act of 1993
  • Represents his/her school through participation in the activities of local, state and national professional organizations, and encourages other members of the staff to extend their participation in a similar way.
  • Completes all reports required by federal, state and local agencies
  • Has a sound understanding of the NEASC process as well as the required leadership skills
  • Chairs the School Council, Safety & Housekeeping, Technology and other school level committees and oversees the creation of annual plans in these areas
  • Fosters and monitors the school’s extracurricular programs, volunteer programs and Parent Teacher Organization
  • Assumes responsibility for the safety of the students, staff and school
  • Sets and mandates high expectations for student behavior that gives staff and students a sense of order and discipline within a caring environment.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Twelve-month position
  • Salary and other benefits to be established by the Seekonk School Committee
