2018 - 2019 School Year Vacancy

The Westport Community Schools is actively seeking experienced, qualified candidates for the position of Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1, 2018. The Westport School Committee has engaged the Collins Center at the University of Massachusetts Boston to assist the district with this search process.

The Westport Community Schools (WCS) is a PK-12 school district with 1,430 students in one Pre-K -2 primary school, one Grade 3-6 elementary school, and one middle-high school (grades 7-12). The district has 281 FTE staff, including 130 FTE teachers. The WCS student population is 24.8% economically disadvantaged, 37.1% high needs, 18.6% students with disabilities, and 1% English language learners

  • The Superintendent provides overall management and leadership to the Westport Community Schools, according to
    the district’s mission, vision, and strategic plan, and provides leadership in the improvement, development, and assessment of the instructional program of the school district to ensure the best possible educational programs and services. The key duties and responsibilities of this leadership position include educational leadership, communication, staffing, financial management, and operational and facilities management, including leadership of new school building projects.

    The qualifications for this position include: a minimum of a Master’s degree (Doctorate preferred) in Administration, Education, or related field; successful administrative leadership experience, preferably at the secondary level, and demonstrated leadership skills, preferably in an education setting; excellent communication skills; a proven ability to work collaboratively and build partnerships within the schools, the community, and town government; proficiency in curriculum assessment, contract negotiations and school based technology; demonstrated understanding of Massachusetts General Law and Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) policies and procedures; an ability to articulate a clear vision of the role and importance of the education system in preparing students to productively live in a global society; a record of responsible financial and school facility management; and possession of a DESE license as Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent or eligibility for such license.
