Job Description

Blackstone Valley Prep (BVP) Mayoral Academy is now seeking 2 proven leaders to be a Dean at Elementary School 1 and Elementary School 2. We are looking for a diverse pool of applicants who are inspired by our mission and possess the skills, knowledge, and work ethic to join a dedicated team of leaders and teachers to do whatever it takes to put every scholars on a path to success in college and the world beyond.

Instruction at Blackstone Valley Prep is driven by local and Common Core State Standards and aligned assessments to determine scholar needs. Our team members frequently receive targeted feedback and support from their manager and from their peers and are motivated by a desire to continuously improve their outputs.

Our school day and year are both extended, teachers maximize every second of learning time so that our scholars receive seven plus hours a day of high-quality standards-based instruction, all non-instructional staff are intended to hold themselves and their peers to these same high standards. While our scheduled hours are 7:15AM-3:15 PM, it is more common for our team to work much longer hours to prep 100% of scholars for success in college and beyond.

Responsibilities of a BVP team member include, (but are not limited to):

-Acts on the belief that 100% of scholars can be successful in college and the world beyond
-Recognizes and celebrates diversity of educators, scholars, families, and other stakeholders by demonstrating respect for all perspectives while actively working to build an equitable school community
-Is results driven, with excellent planning and organizing skills, and a “do whatever it takes” attitude and work ethic
-Engages meaningfully in school and network professional growth opportunities and enhances professional growth by giving and seeking assistance from other team members
-Acts ethically and with integrity while following all school, network, and state policies
-Other assigned tasks as identified by your direct manager

Responsibilities of a Dean include (but are not limited to):

Demonstrate exceptional teacher leadership
-Directly coach and develop a caseload of teachers to further develop their instructional skills to engage 100% of scholars
-Observe lessons regularly and deliver targeted feedback to teachers
-Collaborate with grade and/or subject teams to launch units, plan lessons and assessments
-Provide tools and resources for effective instructional delivery
-Model effective instructional practices for teachers

Lead outstanding professional development
-Coordinate, manage, and facilitate innovative, motivating staff trainings and professional development sessions
-Facilitate regular data meetings with teachers to troubleshoot challenges and make decisions based on scholar achievement

Serve as an active member of the school leadership team
-Participate in weekly leadership team meetings
-Collaborate with Deans across the BVP network to build upon and refine current curriculum
-Assist grade chairs and other teacher leaders in developing leadership skills

Collaborate with scholar support staff members to manage school culture
-Work closely with the Head of School, Social Worker and other members of scholar support team to establish a positive,
structured, achievement-oriented and joyful school culture
-Coordinate and implement school-wide behavior management systems
-Assist teachers, scholars, and parents with effective creation and implementation of behavior plans, including leading targeted Tier
3 interventions as needed
-Analyze school wide culture data and make adjustments as necessary
-Monitor and analyze scholars’ attendance, homework, and discipline records and proactively responds to school's areas of need
-Develop and promote a positive culture for teachers and staff


-Three years or more of exceptional student growth/achievement results as a teacher
-Track record of establishing and maintaining a positive and respectful classroom environment
-Master’s degree preferred
-Experience as a teacher leader, mentor, or coach
-Commitment to BVP’s mission
-Excellent communication skills - clear writer, facilitator, and excellent public speaker
-Team player
-Maturity and a “do whatever it takes” attitude and work ethic
