Position:   Bus Driver

 

Qualifications: 

 

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Complete and pass the KDOT physical examination and hold a valid KDOT Card.
  3. Complete and pass an American Red Cross Multimedia First Aid Course and CPR.
  4. Complete and pass the Defensive Driving Course of the National Safety Council.
  5. Hold a Kansas CDL B(PS) Commercial License to operate a school bus.
  6. Submit to random alcohol and drug tests.
  7. Every school bus driver must be an American citizen.
  8. Driving record must contain no serious violations.
  9. No person shall be employed as a school bus driver who has been convicted of a felony or of any offense against public morals.
 If applicants for School Bus Driver do not hold the above qualifications, district transportation personnel can assist in training.

    

Reports To:        Director of Transportation & Grounds

 

Purpose: To provide safe and efficient transportation so students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage of the district’s curricular and extracurricular program.

 

Essential Functions:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily:

  1. Obeys all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
  2. Practices good public relations practices and is a positive representative of the school system.
  3. Maintains discipline when students are on the bus.
  4. Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
  5. Keeps assigned bus clean.
  6. Keeps to assigned schedule.
  7. Checks bus before and after each operation for mechanical defects.
  8. Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
  9. Discharges students only at authorized stops.
  10. Checks all buses for gas, oil, washing (cleaning inside and out) and report other mechanical failures to the transportation supervisor.
  11. Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
  12. Transports only authorized students.
  13. Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
  14. Enforces district behavior code for bus drivers.
  15. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information.
  16. Performs such other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent, CFO, or Director of Transportation.

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is required to use hands and fingers.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.

        peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
