Job Description

This position is split between the two schools Rumney Memorial and Doty Elementary. The school librarian is authorized to provide library media services and instruction in grades PK-6.

Oversee circulation including: staffing the circulation desk, sending out overdue notices and billing for lost items and work with patrons to ensure return of materials,

Organize the library learning space to enhance the use of information resources and services,

Curate and develop a quality collection designed to meet the diverse curricular, personal, and professional needs of students, teachers, and administrators and to ensure equitable access for all users by managing inter-library loans and appropriate allocation of library budgeted funds,

Possess knowledge of cultural influences on learning by demonstrating cultural competence using print and digital information resources that supports students developmentally, culturally, socially, and linguistically,

Supports the effective integration and continuous adaptation to new technology throughout all areas of the school’s curriculum as delineated in Vermont’s Framework of Standards and Learning Opportunities.

Demonstrate a deep knowledge of a wide range of children’s, young adult, and professional literature in multiple formats and languages to support reading for information, pleasure, critical thinking, and reading for lifelong learning in order to encourage engagement with literature in and out of school in order to develop habits of creative expression, critical thinking, and lifelong learning

Using a variety of instructional strategies and assessment tools to design and develop authentic learning experiences and assessments in partnership with classroom teachers and other educators; and

Participate in curriculum development, engage in the school improvement processes, and design professional learning opportunities. It is encouraged to collaborate with other teachers to plan and implement instruction.

The library/media specialist is tasked with Integrating the use of technologies for effective and creative instruction and supporting students inquiry and evaluation of their learning.

Model and facilitate the effective use of tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, use, and reflect on information resources to support research, learning, creation, and communication in a digital society,

Demonstrates knowledge of topics, concepts, and skills essential to the effective integration of technology in the teaching and learning process. Including proficiency-based learning,

Collaborates with classroom teachers to design and implement, tasks or projects that incorporate various technologies as tools to facilitate and enhance students’ research, critical thinking, problem solving, analysis, collaboration, communication, and presentation skills

Collaborates with special educators and student support professionals to identify and implement technologies to support the learning of students with various forms of disabilities,

Applies and models the ethical use of educational technologies; and

Demonstrates sensitivity to inequities in technology access in schools by incorporating and modeling specific instructional strategies that promote equity.

    Job Requirements

    • The candidate chosen will work between two elementary schools, Rumney Memorial and Doty. The library/media specialist will curate physical, digital, and virtual collections that promote ethical and equitable access to knowledge and information. The person in this position will also help promote a dynamic and innovative curriculum by being an effective and knowledgeable resource for other faculty members. Dual certification as a tech integrationist preferred.
