Shelby County Schools is accepting special education teacher applications for the 2017-18 mid year vacancies.

We're seeking special education teachers interested in teaching one of the following types of classes: adaptive functional skills, day treatment, functional skills, instructional resource, or short term placement.

Compensation & Benefits
Teacher salaries start at $43,000. A comprehensive benefits package is also offered that includes health, dental, vision, and flexible spending account options.


Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree and be eligible to work in the United States.

Additionally, candidates Meet ONE of the following requirements:

Hold full teaching certification and an active Special Education endorsement in Tennessee or another U.S. state OR
Hold an undergraduate GPA of 2.75+ and score a passing grade (153 or higher) on the Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications (code 5543) Praxis exam and be willing to enroll in educational coursework at a university that has partnered with SCS OR
Hold an undergraduate GPA of 2.75+ and score a passing grade (153 or higher) on the Special Education: Core Knowledge and Severe to Profound Applications (code 5545) Praxis exam and be willing to enroll in educational coursework at a university that has partnered with SCS OR
Hold an undergraduate GPA of 2.75+ and a degree in special education and be willing to enrolle in educational coursework at a university that has partnered with SCS
