Job Description

The League School of Greater Boston is a year-round program dedicated to the education of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Our team approach to education creates a collaborative, supportive and open environment within our community. We are currently seeking a COORDINATOR OF VOCATIONAL AND CAREER SERVICES to start immediately on our campus in Walpole. This position leads a team of Job Coaches and a Vocational Manager to achieve the desired results for the program.

    Job Requirements

    • The Vocational Center at the League School of Greater Boston complements our educational program by providing work and job skills training for our students. Opportunities range from jobs in the community to work in our school kitchen, store and vocational center. The goal is to help our students transition to life beyond their school years with valuable training and skills.

      Position Requirements:
    • Master’s Degre
    • in related field required.
    • May be waived with significant experience. All applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree.
    • Professional certification (Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, Occupational Therapist, etc.) or teaching license required.
    • Significant experience in vocational and transitional services for a special needs population.
    • Five years experience with autistic population and demonstrated interpersonal, supervisory and administrative skills.
    • CPR, CPI and First Aid certifications.
    • Valid driver’s license.

      Supervision Received: Reports to the Principal/Assistant Principal
      Supervision Exercised: Supervises and evaluates one Vocational Manager and all Job Coaches.

      Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

      1. Develops and monitors vocational opportunities for students within the school including, but not limited to, the school store, vocational center, and cleaning/organizational tasks.
      2. Obtains and monitors jobs and vocational training opportunities for students in the community.
      3. Develops, assigns and supervises vocational staff in community volunteer and job employment training sites.
      4. Acts as liaison with outside agencies for community volunteer and job employment opportunities, including the local chamber of commerce.
      5. Formally and informally assesses students for vocational-skill acquisition and appropriateness for various community-training opportunities.
      6. Works with specialists and teachers to implement language, communication, organization, and sensory/fine motor accommodations and goals into vocational settings.
      7. Participates in the planning of Transition Services for all students.
      8. Supervises all vocational staff, including job coaches and Vocational Manager, regarding vocational programming.
      9. Develops a therapeutic and effective relationship with students: uses appropriate voice modulation, sets reasonable boundaries with communication and actions, etc.
      10. Implements student behavior programs: positive reinforcement, breaks, time outs, etc., as designed by the Behavior Department and the team.
      11. Monitors health and safety of students and follows through with the School Nurse on incidents requiring medical attention.
      12. Completes, submits and maintains all necessary paperwork for student employment within the community.
      13. Develops and monitors the Vocational program budget, including monthly review of expenditures.
      14. Works as a team player. Attends supervision, staff, classroom, program and annual review meetings – as assigned. Attends and facilitates program meetings. Comes prepared with agenda and ready to discuss issues and solutions.
      15. Consults with Head Teachers to develop appropriate vocational goals and objectives for Individual Educational Plans. Completes written reports, as needed: Incident, Accident, Quarterly Progress, Individual Educational Programs and Re-evaluation reports.
      16. Participates in all trainings, as required by League School of Greater Boston.
      17. Performs other related duties, as designated by the Assistant Principal/Principal, that are deemed necessary for the operation of the school, such as evening trainings, Open House, etc.

      Computer Skills:
      To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word: Microsoft Excel: Microsoft Internet Explorer; Microsoft Office and Google applications.
