Job Description

ESL teachers are integral to Alma’s mission and crew. The ESL Teacher will provide direct English instruction to English Language Leaners and ensure that all scholars with a home language other than English rapidly move toward proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English. ESL teachers are auteurs, creative leaders who stop at nothing to ensure that their scholars’ learning experience is truly powerful.

The responsibilities of the ESL Teacher will include the following:

Program Leadership
• Coordinate the provision of ELL direct services and supervise the implementation of Sheltered English Immersion in all classrooms serving ELLs.
• Develop English clear and measurable goals for English language development; continually assess progress toward these goals.
• Keep ELL records in compliance with DESE regulations.
• Monitor FLEP (formerly limited English proficient) students.
• Coordinate and deliver ELL PD for general education teachers.
• Support classroom teachers in meeting the needs of ELLs.

Direct instruction
• Design, plan, and deliver direct English language instruction to small groups of English Language Learners outside the general education classroom.
• Administer assessments for the purpose of evaluating student language ability.
• Research, teach and model best practices used to address the needs of those students who struggle with speaking, listening, reading and writing.

The ESL Teacher will receive ongoing professional development and frequent, targeted feedback and coaching.

    Job Requirements

    • We seek outstanding teachers with the following qualifications:
      • At least one year of full time teaching experience
      • Proven effectiveness leading all students to significant academic gains
      • Strong team orientation
      • Infectious joy
      • Bilingual preferred
    • At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred
    • Bachelor degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency OR WORK VISA IN United States required
