Job Description

Duties:
The Amigos Junior Kindergarten/Kindergarten teacher will be responsible for teaching students in two-way immersion school. The Extended Term Substitute (ETS) will be responsible for working collaboratively with grade level team members, classroom assistants, and the broader school community to deliver highly effective bilingual instruction to a diverse group of young learners. The ETS should have a strong commitment to bilingual/two-way immersion education and culturally responsive teaching, with native or near-native Spanish speaking, reading and writing ability, and knowledge of culturally relevant teaching practices. Using district adopted curriculum resources, the ETS will thoughtfully facilitate student learning in Spanish (80%) and English (20%) across the curriculum, and support students’ transfer of learning from one linguistic context to another. The ETS will employ formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress, inform instruction, determine intervention and enrichment plans, and communicate student progress to parents and other school staff when appropriate. The ETS will work closely with classroom assistants, special educators, instructional coaches and interns, and differentiate classroom instruction to meet each student’s developmental needs.

Additionally the ETS will support the school’s goals of creating an inclusive and safe community by sustaining a caring and responsive classroom culture.

 

Minimum Requirements and Key Capabilities:

  • Spanish and English bilingual language fluency
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive practices
  • Knowledge of best practices for bilingual education
  • Knowledge of and interest in the dual-immersion bilingual model
  • Skilled in collaboration and effective spoken and written communication
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university preferred. 
  • Experience with Early Childhood Education, Familiarity with and appreciation of junior kindergarten students and their needs, issues and interests
  • Massachusetts Certification Preferred
